Followed the instructions laid out here on Fedora 19, logged in fine, DreamSeeker took by key fine for login to BYOND servers, no problem.
What winetricks do you have installed?
I followed the same instructions on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Trusty. The winetricks are the same ones, which include wsh56 wsh57 jscript mfc42 vcrun6 ie7 and ie8.
And as far as VM, that's another option I suppose in the long run I might have to entertain...though the performance on my Chromebook probably won't be great.
