Cepheus, you need to think about what deserves violence or not. If there is any other way, and if they deserve discipline in the first place, it is ALWAYS better to take the non-violent way, because your actions affect the future and things usually won't go your way. And this is the selfish approach: violence comes back to bite you in the ass, almost always.
And there is a different between a smack/slap/punch to the arm, and beating the living shit out of a person. If the girl doesn't have much strength, her punching me in the arm isn't going to hurt me and therefore isn't an excuse to punch her back with 3 times the strength.
