Yes, that's right everyone. I'm going to be offering email accounts on byondmail.com. Currently, it hasn't got a site of it's own, and the email host is likely to change to a private server instead of managed service. But still, it's a free account.
-Simply Fan the BYOND profile Janus Gaming
-Then PM that same profile with the following form filled out to get your free email account:

Some years back AZA and I ran a service using the same domain (byondmail.com), it basically ran a POP3/IMAP/SMTP server that registered accounts after the person logged in with their BYOND key. When logged in you gained access to your various settings and webmail, plus the ability to generate a password for external client usage.
It was restricted to BYOND Members since we were offering it free on our end and only accepted donations, if we had opened it to everyone we couldn't have afforded to run it; it's not free running a good secure mail server. So keep that in mind as you move forward, your costs will increase as your userbase does and if you want to manage the servers yourself you'll need some good experience with it because one small misconfiguration and your server is open for spammers to abuse to their happy delight. Good luck :) |
If you have a domain that redirects to your IP, how hard would it be to accomplish something like this? *insert big grin here*
|
No harder than running any other Linux box on your system, mail servers are just software. I don't recommend doing it on your personal connection though, one small misstep and you have a spam network draining 100% of your bandwidth very rapidly.
|
Not to mention your ISP getting an angry letter from some company's network admin against your IP address(es).
|
That's what cloud hosting is for. I'm going to be migrating all my emails services over to a cloud server I've already got set up. Gigabit connection, unlimited bandwidth, DDoS protection; it'll be fine. Plus I've got a crack team of engineers ready to fix any problems I encounter.*
(*As in, myself and one of the most tech savvy people I know) |
Crack team? As in they sniff crack to improve the work load? ._. Lol. jp. Let me know how it goes though.

I'd like to have a website set up to handle everything here in the next couple of weeks. Preferably with DMCGI to verify that you are a BYOND member to get benefits. (I.e. Bigger inbox) |
I have methods of getting free domain names(not subdomains). It can be customized to an extent for free. No ads, PHP, SQL, Ruby.. if I'm correct.. However, DMCGI.. I don't know much about how you'd implement it so I couldn't say anything there. Bandwidth is 5GB monthly for free and if you pay yearly it's unlimited. I paid once.. $1.00 a year. But they asked for 50$ the next year. Mostly because they don't allow you to renew with their discount plans lol. But it was a nice discount though. $1.00 for a domain and great hosting.

It's all good. Like I said, I've got a cloud server configured and once I start offering paid services, I'm not going to do so until I know my offered service will be top-notch. Only larger inboxes comes to mind right now. |

Throw in a good discount for me. ._. Lol Well I am planning on offering discounts to people that initially accept the free emails. I'm not sure after what number I'll cut off at for steep discounts, but act sooner rather than later. ;) I've got byondmail.com, and byond.li* to give out domains on. Once I start offering paid services, byond.li will be the only free BYOND themed domain. All people that get free byondmail.com emails will be grandfathered in. *The .li domain is to match free service I offer for another forum. |
I still have the old BYONDmail e-mail, [email protected] that I used to sign up for a few things, plus one of my accounts still use it and I can't get the e-mail changed away from it.... I wonder if you reset up [email protected] if it will do anything for me.

I wonder if you reset up [email protected] if it will do anything for me. Well sure, I can do that! I could set it up right now, but I'm actually about to change servers and I'm not 100% sure I'll be able to take all my data with me. I can let you know as soon as I'm set up where I know I'll be for a while. |
I'm happy to announce that I've given away four accounts so far! Keep the request coming in, I'll be going them out for a good, long while!
Also, ignore that last post about possibly losing email data. I'm just silly. That would never happen! Although service my temporarily go down sometime this week. We'll be changing to a server with dedicated resources, so we'll be able to offer a higher degree of quality in this service. |
Come on everyone! We're stiiiiill passing out emails like it were candy eleven days from now.
