Hello everyone, I've just made my Byond account and I've encountered some fairly good games. I'd like to learn and try to excel in the DM language. While I'm doing this I was wondering if anyone had a personal preference on how they begin working on a project.
For example:
-Programming Turfs,objs,mobs.etc
-Getting all the icons finished
-Game design document
-Systems
or anything else that you'll due in order to finish a game.
I'd be extremely grateful for all answers as they will all be taken into consideration for when I begin starting my journey in the game making process.
Thank You.

I personally don't like working without resources before hand, having a budget helps hugely with that; as you can work on systems in the programming as you pay a artist to complete the art you need done; This way you get icons for the game as you start the ground work. Hopefully, by time you need them; the artist will be finished with what you need. You'll have to be organized to work like this; give priority work for what you'll need sooner than others with deadlines. After a lot of work and a lot of time, you'll be ready to release a alpha then a beta. Beta's where you can start making money on something, having a paid beta like Minecraft, for instance, could net you a decent penny to pay for more resources(assuming you used free-to-use music for the game until now, you'll be spending some of that on the score for the game.) until you got a full game's worth content in a stable enough environment.

2) Outline your game, start to finish. Get an idea of what systems it needs to use.
3) Research again, how to do each system, and plan accordingly.
4) Start with the most basic core systems and work your way through them one at a time, putting together placeholder art while you work.
5) When playable, open an alpha to try to attract artists to work with you, while you refine your game, and try to make it smoother, faster, better, more fun, etc.
6) Work with artists to pretty up the game, and redesign it around the art.
7) Open a beta, keep improving, fixing, and attracting more players/artists/attention. Use whatever funds you can gain to improve the game.
8) Keep adding content and work your way to the complete list of features you outlined.
When you feel relatively satisfied, you are done.
