Don't make me get the belt...
xD @ Branks but your right Look for an Pixel artist or learn for yours self.

Im an Programmer/PixelArtist/GfxArtist/SoundArtist/WebCreator Lol i had to learn the hard ay that sometimes you might not have people to depend on to do jobs for you.
lol i bet if the anime section got erased 1 of 2 things would happen 1. all the anime games would move to action/rpg under sum fake name and some altered crap (like the fail coverup dbz game Final Resurrection: Redemption) or byond would probly die due to the lack of donations and income from not having any interest in the few scarce games worth playing left over
In response to Mastergamerxxx
How many people that religiously play anime games on BYOND have a stable income?
apparently enough to be spending cash on the edits in NFF and buying packages on dragon universe
In response to Mastergamerxxx
You realize that none of that money goes to BYOND, right? If we got rid of the dirty peasants, very little, if anything, would be lost.

They're not being elitists, they're just against others using ripped artwork. Nobody likes to have their artwork stolen. Even if several people are doing it, we don't come to acknowledge it as acceptable behavior.

I don't think anyone has asked you to kill yourself. If that's how you feel, however, you should probably see my response to the first quote I addressed in this comment.

[...] i guess this is why byond doesn't get anywhere with good anime games nowadays and is filled with rips is because anyone who tries to get help ends up with their topic derailed [...]

Yeah... no. That's not why it happens. There are no good anime games because the majority ( not all, but most ) of the developers who actually know how to program and make artwork want to work on something worth making.

Rips are made because someone doesn't like the jutsu in rip [x], or prefers not having to follow rule #3 in rip [y]. It doesn't help that you can google "Naruto Source", download whichever source tickles your fancy, and then you have instant GM ( provided you ask for help on Developer Help ).

[...] and mods look the other way and the player base just ignores the help requested and just tears into them about how horrible a person is

We moderate posts regardless of whether it's about ripping or not ( a user already had their comment deleted ). It's not that we look the other way, it's more like we don't encouraging rips/ripping.

As for how horrible you are, that's a matter of perspective. To be fair, though, I can only imagine people look down on those who steal and then think it's okay because others do it.
If it's just 4 "lil" icons then you could easily make your own 4 "lil" icons. What you need to imprint in your little head is this:

You want help? Fine that's no problem you'll get the help you want and need to improve yourself. BUT! to get the help you need the following:

Effort into your OWN work
Not stealing or ripping of ANY kind, even if it's one icon.

If you can't even follow that, then don't ask for help here. Everyone here is willing to help. They're just not willing to help people who rip, whether it's one icon or a million. If this doesn't give you the hint then nothing will.
You are partly right about what would happen if we got rid of fangames, but you miss the number of fangame-users vs. non-fangame users. Donations from non-fangame to fangame users are heavily stilted, once you factor in how many non-fangame users we have playing games on this site.

The non-fangame community, with donations alone, does more for this community than the fangame community when adjusted by rate of donation/membership.

Since this has turned into a meta-discussion on what benefits BYOND the most, I would like to actually chip in here.

BYOND is not overly benefited by the fangame community. Largely, it's because of the fangame community that we survive, and it's also because of the fangame community we can't get away from the fangame community.

Without them, we fall, but with them, we stagnate. Thing is, the majority of donations may come from people who play/favorite fangames. But the people who play exclusively fangames are a MUCH LARGER sample of the community than those who do not.

Simply put, if you look at the numbers, those who stay in RPG/Action/Strategy/Casual? They have a higher rate of donation than those who do not. SS13, despite being about 20% of our community, easily foot 40% of our bills. Silk's games handle way more than their fair share too, and the rest of the big donations come from community regulars, who rarely even play games.

Secondly, fangames accepting money for edits/packages, etc. Is quite illegal. So that's another issue. It puts BYOND in a bit of a prickly situation whenever C&D letters get sent out, because you guys don't get them first. Tom does.

Top it off with the fact that the culture of theft and immaturity, as well as the horrible state of the majority of the anime games (Design quality, cohesiveness of elements, game theory, etc.) actually makes developers take BYOND much less seriously. Nobody even bothers because the deployment platform is limited to the site, pretty much, and advertising that your game was made with BYOND results in people laughing about the engine that all those "awful naruto/DBZ games are made with".

Anime fangames games have an advantage over original content, which is that they have an existing fanbase to capitalize on. Original games have to work harder to prove they are worthwhile, so the large portion of the community's bills that the anime community DOES pay, are that much less impressive, because quite simply: You guys don't even have to try.

If you guys' games were made using OC, they'd have no players whatsoever due to having no standard of quality whatsoever. We'd be worse off, that's for sure, but we'd also have a much clearer road toward getting the community back in shape for some actual growth.

Let me make this clear: I don't care about fangames. I don't care about anime. I could care less that your game isn't original.

What I'm chiding you for, and quite politely, I might add, is your horrible attitude toward copyright infringement. Had you not responded with "because I can", or "everybody else does it.", we would have warned you: If you are using someone else's work, at least state clearly that you are doing so, and offer some kind of attribution. It's still wrong, but man... At least you are being honest about it.

And as for the mods doing nothing: I'm the one who deleted the post that was made that went too far, and was actually verbally assaulting you. I'm the one who edited your post to tone down the language.

I've been quite respectful about all of this, but the fact is: I, as a user, do not condone copyright infringement, especially when the person who does so, does so with absolutely no remorse, and has nothing but hostility to offer to those who call you out on it.

This is a community of artists and programmers who work hard on their stuff, and you wonder why we are bothered by your theiving of other peoples' work?

I'm sorry you feel wronged here, but you have no justification to feel wronged at all. You should feel ashamed rather than offended after being called out. Just throwing a tantrum and calling us hypocrites is not going to make it better. It'll make it worse.

BTW: Everyone in this thread that is calling you out has never released work using stolen graphics, music, or sound, that I've seen. So we don't qualify as hypocrites for that reason. We are not representative of the community either. Branks' work alone, however, stands out from the community as a whole, and sets him apart from the run-of-the-mill anime games around here.

I genuinely hope that you don't think I'm an elitist, when I, as an artist, am offended by theft of art assets. No matter how small, or common.
fine i removed them now are you going to help me now

First thing you need to work on is the anatomy. You need to decide on a perspective. Whether it's top-down, 3/4ths etc. You look like you're going for a 3/4ths perspective so googling to see what that is and reading into it first would be a good place to start. Work on his anatomy and then re-post what you have.
yeh i cant make the legs for crap thats one thing i cant make i feel i can do the upper body decent but the legs look wrong

3/4s view and isometric are not the same.

3/4s refers to the very common square-grid view persspective where the "camera" is raised off of the ground, so you see both the front and top of most objects. See; virtually every 2D Zelda game, and virtually every "normal" BYOND game.

If you're going to make an anime game, your base needs an anime presence -- which it currently lacks. You'll have to start from the beginning and show me what you come up with, then I'll attempt helping.
i made this base icon aswell but only prob i had was i couldn't do a side view every attempt it looked horrible http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z303/mastergamerx/ baseiconz.png i also made these other alternative races

Your light source could use some work. Also, for images, I recommend using puush, and using <img> tags to post them. Also, you should try to give us a bigger picture than that first one, it is extremely small and hard to see what is going on in it. Your other picture is very large and blurry, which makes it equally as hard to look at.
Tip has been remove due to you ripping no help for you
EDIT: btw you wont make it far if you just steal its ok to look and take inspiration from their styles but don't steal it

If you really made that icon then why would you try to use a rip when that is much nicer?
