Anytime I type fast it just ends and restarts the timer with a new word T_T
There's nothing wrong with the way it handles it, if you try typing fast than you're probably messing up.

Is it and obstacle game?

You bet :) Unfortunately I might have taken a bit of a stretch on the theme, I hope I don't get disqualified because it's way too late to turn back now...

It's exploration! Right?

If it makes you feel any better mine is evolution/being the villain and it's a typing based game about game developing.
Okay, I have about 19 hours left to finish this 1-day "hope this will save my ass" entry. The previous one failed because it was far too complex.

The objective is to explore the host's creation and get to the top. The host plays the villain in which the obstacle course deters heroes from reaching the top.

The host has complete control over building anything he or she wants while the game is running. Upon shutting down of the world, it saves itself in a file, and when the game is booted back up, the very same map is loaded back. The host can choose to restart the map in the console via the command "ResetMap."

Yeah I'm decided. I'm going to pull an all-nighter to complete my entry :)

I might start streaming when the timer hits 12 hours left
Only 16 hours remaining!

Once your game is ready for submission, send a zipped folder with the content to [email protected]. You are expected to send the .dmb, .rsc, a note of your BYOND key, documentation on the use of animate(), and a list of the theme(s) your project uses.
Day whatever (I missed one, so that makes this cover day 11 and 12? though I guess today should be day 14, right? so I'm still off by one? well, whatever, it'll all be over soon...lol) -

1) I've got to finish up the mobs (artwork and programming, including their animate() effects, behavior, interactions with the player, etc.)

There is still quite a bit of mob programming that needs to be done, but mostly in two categories:

a) Mob spawning/despawning system. A great deal of the content in the game is procedurally generated, and the mob spawning will be no different. The various types of mobs will be spawned just outside of the player's view at random intervals, and their type will be selected based on location (different mobs "inhabit" different places on the map; plus, they're important to different "stages" of map progress).

b) There is a sort-of "evolution" system in place, with player mob variables that can/must be changed through gameplay mechanics in order to advance, but I need the supporting systems in place to visually represent those changes, and the systems that make those changes necessary. (there are improvements that will need to be made to your character in order to progress to the goal; I need to program in the limiting factors that the new abilities will be needed to get around)

2) Finish the HUD (the important element is in and working; I just need to add some secondary elements, and perhaps a nice frame for the whole thing)

3) Finalize the skin (I'm currently using a rudimentary interface that isn't much different than the default; but for the released version of the game, there will be no verbs and no text input/output elements, it will just be the map)

This is 11th-hour type stuff. Just gotta go into the .dmf and rip out the unwanted elements, leaving only the map. So I'm going to consider it "done", even though it's really not. Hell, if I forget about it, it won't kill anything. I've been removing my testing verbs as they're no longer required, and I think I'm just down to one that counts the number of objs in the game, so if it gets left in, big deal.

4) Program all necessary functions that will actually make this a game (it currently looks pretty, and it's fun to move around in the environment, and the most important stat along with the means of displaying and adjusting it are in place, but ultimately the objective is not programmed, nor even fully decided...lol)

Gameplay is basically nailed down, pending the wrap-up of the mob programming mentioned above.

Objective settled upon and artwork drawn to support it, just needs the corresponding procedures to handle it. Will be built off of existing systems, so it won't be too difficult.

5) It needs a landing screen for login/between runs (part of yesterday's "wasted" effort might help me with this, though).

6) It needs some form of instructions. I may end up having to just have an outside document (or the hub page description) explain the gameplay, rather than have something in-game. But this is time-dependent. If there's enough left before the deadline, I'll stick the instructions into the game (maybe via a toggle-able interface element, I dunno)

It's settled that all of my instructions will be given on the game's hub page and/or here and/or a readme with the game.

However! I realized that I still need to write up some documentation of my uses of animate() (and related features), so that's gotta get done sometime today also.

7) It needs a NAME! lol It's got a definite theme, in a specific environment, and the gameplay objective (while not entirely finalized) is pretty narrow, so you'd think that settling on a name should be easy. Well, maybe it will be, and I just haven't put enough thought into it yet, but so far, the project is just named "500contest"...lol

(Potentially Lame) Name chosen! Just need to whip up a text graphic for it to stick on my title screen.

8) And here goes the million other little details that I'm just not thinking of at the moment, but will likely rear their ugly little heads in a week from now...lol

This one will strike in about 15 hours, I'm sure.

9) [Edit:] And I forgot to add Sound to the List. That's a big one.

Spent most of last night's working time downloading music and FX. Just gotta pick the ones I want to use, and program them in.

I better get to play this!
My entry won't be as complete as I'd hoped, it'll be more like a demo.

Unfortunately the internet here on campus went out for most of Tuesday and all of Wednesday, so here I am now just now getting it working.

Looks like a rip off of your other "Juno" games with the ships and the space. Disqualified!

Too soon, man. Too soon.

Scratch that, it's off-and-on. Can't seem to get it stable.
I really hit a road block with getting my entry (read: failed entries) to line up with the themes this time around, so I won't be submitting anything for this contest. But now I have a few good starts that may turn into something in the nearby future.

The two entries I played so far were great and these screenshots look promising, keep up the good work!
The game on which Albro collaborated with me, will not be completed...really need magic now..

But in case the game is not completed, I plan to complete it in future because I think this game can be pretty good.

Good Luck to everyone else!

@Jittai I am not sure but I think I saw a similar game on BYOND before, not sure though. Nice game nonetheless.
Five hours left...at least I won't be up too far past my bedtime :)
LET US PLAY THEM NOW PLEASE :D
