I don't like rap.
It just scares and upsets me. =(
I don't like listening to someone threatening to hurt me. ='(
The only rap-involving band I like is Rage. They rock. =)

Kunark pretty much owned the whole topic.
But I guess I'll add my 2-cents. Some rap is good, if you don't beleive in stereotypes. Listen to more of the old school rap, thats when there were other things besides whore, guns, and drugs oh oh and money. Some rock is good, like Evanescence and Ra. You just have to keep listening and hope you hear something good, I tend to ask people what there favorite songs are. |

"Indie" sucks. Straylight Run made a good indie song, but I got sick of it really quickly. |
Indie is the one genre of music I wish would make more references to "bangin' hoes" and "selling drugz".

Cons
************** Metal- Pointless, and I'm convinced it doesn't have actual words in it. Rock- Okay at times, but mostly very repetitive, or long breaks of just instrumentals. Emo- Go cut yourself, have a blast. Country- I'm convinced by now that every country singer sounds the same, and all the songs are about the same thing. R&B- Really, just a more urban form of country. Rap- A lot of newer rap has good beats, but the beats don't go with how the rapper sounds. Pros ************** Metal- When there's a Metal song that you can actually hear what the singer is saying, and the instrumentals are toned down it's okay to listen to, but still not my number one choice. Rock- Although repetitive, there are still some good bands granted mostly old that can make that repetitiveness sound perfectly fine. Emo- I seriously can't think of anything good about this music, if you are into this crap then do what the music says, and rip your heart out and feed it to your ex-girlfriend/ex-boyfriend. Country- I like one country singer Kid Rock. His songs don't sound like other country songs at all, finally something different, and he doesn't sound half bad either. R&B- Good music to Rap- Old school rap is indisputably the best, but there is still some good newer rap out there. You might complain rappers just rap about how their life was in the ghetto, but that's fine with me, because I sure as hell don't want to listen to them rap about life in the Hills, or Malibu. Also, rap is very good club music. |

And anyone can make a decent rhyme with enough time. To me, what makes a rap good is a) it's not over the top, b) it's got a good beat and a good overall sound.
And strawgate, you seem a little ignorant to the genre. I believe you have to have an ear for the general genre before you can truly judge it.
I listen to music that is well made and sounds good.... It can pretty much be in any genre (except for the sub-sub-sub genres that are so "sub" because something in their music sucks, like Death-metal).
Also keep in mind that not all artists always produce good music. Some of my favorite artists have produced horrible music before, but their good music more than makes up for it.
In my opinion, here are some good artists:
Metal/etc (my favorite genre): Korn, deftones, Nine Inch Nails, Orgy, A Perfect Circle, System of a Down
Punk/light rock/etc: Muse, Taking Back Sunday, Evanescence, Tatu
Classic Rock: Pink Floyd, Def lepord (sp?)
Hip-hop/R&B/etc: Lil' Jon, Snoop Dogg, Nelly Fertado (sp?), Franky J, Black Eyed Peas, Isaac Hayes
Orchistral/Classical: Just about everything orchistral is good, because they can't afford to go wrong.
The only genre I really don't have an ear for is Country music. Country music doesn't suck, and I can still appreciate a good country song, the sounds just isn't my flavor. I am also bias against the slower gangser rap.
