These forums are certainly invaluable, but I must say (with all due respect), the layouts kinda annoying. How come you guys don't use a "normal" forum, like the free ones you can get from http://ezboard.com for example.
Well thats just my 2 cents, as I find the regular foums are much eaier to read though.

Going with ezboard would have made life a lot ez-ier! But I, like EbonShadow, am not a big fan. If you like their layout though, you might try setting your default layout style in the Preferences menu to "Topic View". That will display things in pretty much the same fashion. |

Personally, I'd never put important stuff on a free system that could go under anyday. I don't think Dantom would want to wake up one day to discover that ezboard didn't exist and all their forum archives were gone. That said, ezboard or yahoogroups are good for things that can handle it going away, and I use them all the time for that. |

They would be better off using UBB, which is an expensive Message Board and is very high quality. Not to mention that if they used ezbard they would get popups and banners and all the crap unless they payed. |

I'm not a big fan of UBB either, mostly because you have to load a bunch of unwanted messages everytime you want to read a response. I guess I just like the threads / individual message layout, but the freebie boards that use it aren't written very efficiently. I attempted to make this board fairly flexible so that those who don't share this penchants for threads would still find it reasonable. Now that the BYOND certification works remotely, we'll be able to make this board publically available too, in case anyone cares. But enough about this rather insignificant detail. We have real work to do! |

Funny, I wasn't aware that there was a universal standard for forums. Then again, I'm just a backwater hick, so that's to be expected. The reason you're used to seeing ezboard style layouts is that most people use ezboard style boards (often, ezboard.) I see quite a lot of diversity in forum styles when it comes to people who use forums that don't suck, if you'll pardon my somewhat belligerent editorializing. What's really great about this one happens to be that there's a large and conspicuous bit at the top where you can change how messages are displayed, thus accomodating even the unwashed heathens who don't like thread view. |

Ok.. you do realise that when I say, for "example a free ezboard", I mean, for example an exboard style of forum, dispite how some of you seem to have interpreted it, I wasn't saying we have to use a cheap and unprofessional looking ezboard. Even though exboards are neither cheap or unprofessional if you actually pay.

Well ultimately we have like 2 years of development on the system we've got, with it regularly iterating toward something a majority of us like. It might not be perfect (my favorite is a slightly different model), but it's definitely better than any system I've seen on the web, and I've used a lot of them. |

In that case I'm off to buy a bigger monitor so I can see more threads. ;)

That would suck really bad. I use one of those boards on my page, and I would prefer this forum over it any day! Besides, if Dan and Tom wanted I could give them a free UBB board.
