Here is my current setup. 3 Computers connected on a LinkSys LAN. Win98SE is on the 2 computers I'm using for the internet. One computers has a dialup modem using ICS to connect to the internet. I've got dialup adapter, and TCP/IP installed in Network.

For some reason I can give my game to other people and they can host it just find, but can not host my own game. On this or my other computer with the modem. When I use Dream Seeker, I can click on host on the lower right, make it 0 for port to be assigned, and Public so others can see it.

I shows up just find on the Games Live!, but when ever someone trys to enter my game it says failed to connect.

Anything Networking wise or settings I can change?
Anyone else have this problem?

Anyone else have this problem?

Yes I am too.
I use ICS on my home network as well. There is nothing you can do to allow people outside you network to connect except to disable ICS and run your game from the computer with the internet connection. People also can't page you while ICS is active.

When you run your game with ICS disabled others on your network can connect to that game, but they obviously won't have access to the internet.

Hmmm upgrading to Win2k is looking better and better, so I can drop this ICS crap! :-P

Thanks for the input.

Yes, I have the same problem with my DSL connection. I can't host any games. It shows up on the Hub, but noone can connect. This is extremely disapointing, as I would like to host games, seeing as how I have a highspeed internet connection and all. If anyone could provide me with some input on how to properly host a BYOND game through a DSL connection, I would be forever in their debt. I would like to host games on a regular basis, and to provide dedicated hosting for people, etc...

See http://www.byond.com/docs/howto/byond_network.html. The basic idea is that either you are behind an external firewall (from your ISP) or one in your own place (like a router or something). If it's your own router, you might be able to configure it to route incoming connections on specific ports to specific computers within your network.

Good luck. Let us know if anything works out.

Well...

Yesterday a service tech was at my office building a floor below installing a phone line for another tenent. Somehow, he disconnected our DSL line, and we lost internet service for almost a day and a half. It turns out that the guys who origionally installed our line had no clue as to what they were doing, and neglected to notice that someone's phone was hooked into our loop. This cuased all sorts of troubles including CRC errors into the thousands per second!

A real tech came out today and fixed the problem, re-installing our line properly. I still have yet to check and see if this will alllow me to host games, but I am sure it will help. There is no firewall between me and BYOND, at least there is not supposed to be... I'll test the hosting thing out and let you know the outcome...

Please excuse my typos, as I have had no sleep for a while now...
