I would like to be able to control the volume of BYOND sound alone, it would be a nice addition to being able to toggle on, and off.

[Edit]

Oh, and maybe a volume addition to the sound() proc, to be able to control the volume of sounds you play in your game.
This has been requested before (by me) and (like all of my other requests) turned down. Just mess with your windows sound controlls.

I wanted to BYOND volume control for the purpose to be able to control BYOND music/sounds alone, so if I wanted to listen to one midi through windows I wouldn't have to turn BYOND sound off, but just turn it down so I can hear both at my own set volume.

This'd be useful for maybe footsteps in the distance (you could play the sound quietly), or a lion roaring right in your face.

I think he means for sounds for other people to play at varying degrees as well.
Uhm.. another thing that Ive been thinking might be a good thing, as long as we're on the subject of sound, is seperating it into 2 channels.

It would be soooooo great, if we could code sound in sterio. Have it so you can specifify whether you want the sound/midi/whatever played to the left, to the right, or to both, and tag the default (if it isnt specified) on both ^^ I know it would take a fair bit of doing, but sound is one of the last -big- things I think byond needs some upgrades in. The only other one is graphics, and Ive been getting the impression that maybe we can expect some neat stuff for that soon ^_~;

Combine the ability to control volume, with the ability to control which speaker the sound's coming from, and it would add a heck of a lot more functionality to the engine, allowing us, the creators, to make much better quality stuff should we decide to use it. ^_^ which I hope we would *L*

anyyyyways, back into quiet mode ^_^;

On the subject of sound, I won't hide my opinion that BYOND needs better sound support to be a true game-design platform. Not only should sound volume be intact, but also some simple sound editing features, like the ability to fade sound, the ability to connect sounds, etc.

BYOND is awesome, no doubt. It isn't so awesome that it has no need for good sound support like any other game designed in our time.

The sound support was recently upgraded by several magnitudes...one thing at a time...

That's a good suggestion. But, having said that, I wouldn't recommend that Dantom work on it just yet; it would probably be a big task that would only be useful in some very specific applications.

There are, no doubt, tons of sound things that Dantom can add... but if they were to include one feature in the next release, it would be a check box in preferences to disable sound. Some games have irritating music or sounds, or sometimes I just want to play them silently, but if I turn off my speakers I can't hear various other important sounds my computer might make.

We have that! It's in the Preferences dialog, under "Allow sounds ..."

Um...doesn't this already exist???
i think what we are looking for here, if they do decide to add this feature, is to control the volume of each channel in the sound proc. Because once the add the ability to totally conrol the sound volume of all the sound entirely, someone will say they want a quite foot step played with some loud music. Therefore, control the volume of each channel i say!

FIREking

p.s. that is, if they even decide to do this.

Oh, jeez. I always thought that meant something else...

Actually, you are right. It means "Allow Sounds to be Monitored". Whenever it is switched on, it causes a sub-space bubble to surround your PC whenever it is used, filtering all signals that come from your speakers. If they are on a BYOND codec frequency, the sub-space bubble will absorb the sound effects and shunt them directly to the CIA headquarters for immediate examining.

It's all in the Right to Information and Privacy Act.
