Beta #39 (notes)

We're still holding off on the public release until we can verify that these odd startup crashes are no longer occurring. This patch should help in that regard. Please help us out and give it a test run.
  • Improved the efficiency of the map redrawing algorithms with centered movement and a large border of screen objects. (Shadowdarke)

  • It does seem to be drawing the screen object map faster. (I'll have to try from a slower computer to be sure.) Now there is a new minor problem. :( The little tabs on my HUD slide offscreen with each step if they are outside the map area and I move away from them.

You can see this behaviour with the current hub version of Tanks. Start the game, select a map type from the Map statpanel, then type "Begin" and accept the current the game settings. Type "join blue" and join as a Tank.

The HUD is on the right hand side of the map window. Drive left and watch the little HUD tabs slide. It performs perfectly when there are map turfs beneath the tabs. The tabs remained solidly in place at all times in 307b38.

(I just realized I need to simplify game startup in Tanks. :P)
Hate to be the voice of doom, but the dmi bug isn't fixed at all. I'm still getting the same problem as in b38. I'll send on code so you can take a look.

[EDIT]
It appears that the icons that aren't appearing sometimes hold some data. These were created using icon.New(), but never went through a Blend() operation. Ironically, these are the only icons that were appearing before b38. I think you must have broken something when you put in the other .dmi fix.

Icons created dynamically but by using the + and * operators still appear fine in the browser.

Dreamseeker still gracefully crashes anytime I try to set show_map to 1. I e-mailed the trace.txt file to [email protected]...

Oops. Fixed. We'll release a patch later today.

Eat this, Microsoften! virus spreads
BOOTERS
Just last week, the ETM virus launched itself simultaneously from a computer system in southern Cafilornia and one in Winsoscin, and spread like wildfire, disrupting Microsoften programs internationally, throwing the entire global economy into turmoil.

Bull Gates, the stubborn and arrogant corporate head to Microsoften, declared mob rule and was later seen ducking into a private airplane inside Microsoften Flight Simulator 2002, moments before a deranged mousepad, drunk with power, hopped across the runway and snagged itself in the undercarriage of the aircraft. The added weight prevented the vehicle from taking off, and it crashed into the control tower at Tic-Tac Airport.

Concurrently, the virus is continuing to infect systems worldwide. The newsroom is just getting reports that it is infecting our own system, and for that reason, I'm going to have to --

Fixed. It was happening whenever two different icons had the same pixmap data.

and one in Winsoscin, and spread like wildfire

Oh, Winsocksin! From what I hear, Winsock's sin has tainted us all. Not being a computer theologian, I don't know exactly what Winsock is, but I'm told it's corrupt.

Maybe it just hasn't been through the laundry recently.
