Must Microsoft Internet Crap (that's what my brother calls it, he even put that folder on his computer) be used in the BYOND browser? It would be a nice little feature if Netscape users could use Netscape.
On the downside, you'd have to add another section in the Preferences box in Dream Seeker labeled "Browser". This could take up valuable milliseconds of pop-up time, and many impatient people would become extremely annoyed.

It wouldn't be too hard to make Mozilla's open-source HTML renderer (Gecko) part of BYOND. There are a number of third-party browsers that use it. It'd even be much more platform independent.
Its too late for that, though. I wouldn't expect Dantom to go back and make that change, especially now that they're focusing on the webpage. On second thought, that all hinges on how Mozilla's source is licensed. It might force BYOND to release its source to use it, and I'm fairly certain Dantom has no plans for that. -AbyssDragon |
Unless Netscape releases an integrated DLL for allowing its browser to be displayed in programs, that's not going to happen. IE was chosen simply because it was the only browser capable of being embedded into other programs. Active Worlds, for example, also relies on the IE browser in its integrated system.
Dantom could write their own browser, but no point in reinventing the wheel (and taking another few years of development time).
