I've just tonight looked into getting Photoshop Elements, only to discover that although it is cheap, it requires twice as much memory as my system has, and recommends twice that. This means I now have to find if it's possible to upgrade my system's memory further (and I suspect it may max out at Photoshop Elements' minimum).
My system, though, is 5 years old. It's really about time to upgrade. The main thing holding me back, besides not wanting to spend the money at this time of course, is that I'd no longer be able to properly debug programs that don't behave right if designed too carelessly on an NT-based system. Things like not considering how Win9x handles paths, for instance, are currently causing a bit of a headache for the next BYOND release. Who's to watch out for those things in the future?
Well anyway, stability-wise it may be getting about time to move on. I do know XP has a lot of good points, but I just don't look forward to spending weeks configuring a new system. And surely it would take that long.

I still haven't upgraded from Photoshop 6.0. Works fine, though I would like that CS version for the wire-framing... =)
Also, I got WinXP: Media Center Edition. The Media Center program is cool =D Anyways, the dumb thing about Windows is that the registry is bad. Most applications just leave it there from installation, and that just junks up your system even more. I know, it's good for some things like programs with limited uses, and some other info, but it doesn't make up for leaving it there to rot your system byte by byte. Now Linux, on the other hand, doesn't use registry =) |
