Is there ever gonna be a version for Linux released which allows graphical interfaces? I'm getting kinda annoyed having to run WineX with the Windows version :p

If not, is there a way to get this done or something? I'd like to have a graphical version for Linux m'self :)
Whoa! WineX will run DreamSeeker?!?!?!?! If so, then it shall be installed first thing in the morning. :-P

...anyway, IMHO, a graphical Linux client would be nice. I get quite annoyed with being in Linux, then someone finding me over some IM saying that there is some trouble on the game I'm hosting, then me having to reboot to get back into Windows to fight the annoying person(s).

Hehehe, you'll be lucky to get it to work. None of the I-net stuff works for me, I just like to be able to test it.

Haven't you tested it yet? I Think it would work fine in normal Wine considering that it runs with minimal DirectX stuff, and that's the only problem Wine has with being a Windows Emulator.

Good luck :)

Good to know at least someone out there cares too!
I've been bugging Tom for years about a graphical Unix client. BYOND (then DUNG) actually started out on SGI and Linux. It wasn't until around 1996-97 that it was even ported to Windows, but I'm sure you can understand why, given the enormously larger user base. Unfortunately the gui for Linux fell by the wayside, but I have hopes that it will be resurrected once again some day. Unfortunately Dan and Tom are but two and just don't have the time for it right now. I'm under the impression that they're following some good leads for funding, so maybe soon there will be more manpower at Dantom to devote to this.

One thing I mentioned to Tom that would be really cool is if they release the base system as a library and document the specs sufficiently that anyone could write their own front end. But then, it would probably require enough of a redesign of the system that it would be easier for them to do the guis themselves.

Of course, these days, the Unix gui I really want to see these days is for Mac OS X. But that's a different story.

I've had very good success running BYOND in its full glory under VMware for Linux. I don't know if they still sell the VMware Express product, but that was a good low cost solution for people not needing to run every OS under the sun in it. You might also have a look at Win4Lin. I hear it's nearly every bit as good as VMware at running Win9x, and slightly faster to boot. No personal experience though.

I've gotten DreamMaker running under standard Wine, but that's about it.
