Just how many keys can one person have?
Three.
In response to Nadrew
Technically, you can have unlimited keys, but you need to submit to email confirmation if you want more than three. That prevents people from quickly creating new keys to get around ban/boot systems that people might have put in place in their games.

Actually aren't keys stored otherwise on your computer itself using the key.txt file?
In response to Nadrew
I think you can run regedit then (i wont say the whole path) but i searched through it and found a file that had all the keys i had created with the number of letters my password had as stars so...ughh..ya..

Yes, but everytime you retreive one of your keys it adds to the number again.

As of yesterday, anybody can have unlimited keys. Previously, the quota was 3. We were able to eliminate the quota (which caused problems for people sharing network resources), by changing it to a limit of one hassle-free key. After the hassle-free key is used up, you can create additional keys by depositing $5 into your new key's BYONDime wallet.

This system is an important part of every game admin's power to create a fun environment that is not wrecked by spam attacks and what-not.

Hmm... Any chance of making that two hassle-free keys, to allow people to test multiplayer aspects of games on one system without having to pay for a new key?

EDIT: I guess they can use the 'Guest' key.

Well, we might do away with 'Guest' in the next release, since it has caused some confusion in the past.

My hope is that people won't mind shelling out the $5 for the additional "feature" of testing multiplayer games. I don't expect many people to require this. We can probably tweak things if we get a lot of negative feedback, though.

What about existing keys? What happens to those?

Those are fine. This just affects new key creation.

Great!

Yay! I *think* that was something I suggested way back in the dark ages when we first had this discussion.

Now we can have a new mantra: Spam away and make Dantom rich!

Um...what about people who want extra keys but don't have the money to pay for them?

That means they can't afford them, and will have to just accept that they got a key for free, and BYOND has so many free games to play as consolation.

What if you have other siblings living with you ??

Yes, but you can delete key.txt and create a new key. Delete key.txt again, create another, do that repeatidly then retrieve them all, that bypasses the system. I think dantom should fix it =)

*looks at his collection of existing keys and wipes sweat from forehead*

Feel free to delete any of my CMxx keys (where xx is number from 01 through 36)

You were able to only retreive 3 keys before the limit went into effect.

Is this a requirement to pay $5 for a new key, or just to put $5 into your account when you get one?
