I'm am working on getting my 2nd game reviewed by byond. But this game isn't hostable by others, it is hosted a perm hoster. Generaly how long might it take to get it reviewed by byond then, when it is hosted many hours of the day.

Well, I dont think they can review a game that they cant host and check out themselves. Im guessing youll either have to upload a version for them to test out, or set up a hosting session with the reviewer of the channel you submitted it to. Im just guessing here though.

Well, im not sure about that, but maybie, i would think they would email him saying that. I would like to know this too because i want my TBChat to be in games live.

Since you're charging for downloads of your chat program it won't be accepted, even if you are hosting it.
|
It has to be hosted at the time of review, if one of the reviewers can't get in when they go to review it, they'll simply pass it up until the next time they review.
|
Charging for downloads? Im not sure what you mean by that. I don't want anyone to be able to download my game. I got an E-mail from byond stating that the game wasn't being hosted when the reviewer was on, so now I'm a bit depressed but there is always next time.

Why? That system doesnt quite make sense. What if i made it for free, then it got reviewed then charged for it? Why would it not be accepted because it cost to be hosted?

I would suggest finding out the key of the reveiwer for the channel its submitted to, then giving them a free subscription Scoobert.

My understanding of the current guidelines is that anything that charges for download will not be accepted to an official BYOND channel. Why? Because the guidelines state that a game must provide some sort of preview. If your hub entry is set to charge for download, then it is impossible for players to preview what they are paying for. Note that this is different from not allowing download at all, but regularly hosting the game so players can login to your server. The line between them can be a bit fuzzy, and as the guidelines state, exceptions can be made on a case by case basis.
I believe if a game were accepted to a BYOND channel and later set to charge for download, without regular hosting, it would probably be removed from that channel when discovered. Of course, the other good and encouraged way to make money is to offer the download for free but unlock game features with subscriptions (BYOND Passport). Then you can let the players use a preview of the game and decide whether they want to subscribe. I am not a reviewer and don't speak for them, but I think I got everything basically right. |
That is what I'm doing, the game itself is free but parts (expansions) you pay to be able to play in.

There was a demo at one point, and it was accepted by Deadron (or Tom), so apprently it's fine by the offical standards.

Then textmud must be taken off, unless of course there is a demo of it that i have not seen. A while ago, TextMUD was almost guaranteed to have someone hosting it. LoW also made several appeals about it, calling that fact to attention. |
