It would be an excellent idea to do one of the things you suggested but when I moderate, people complain. So I decided to not moderate and see how that goes for me.

I do care, but since there have been a few complaints about the moderators, I wanted to see how things played out when I decided to take a small break.

Seems moderators are in a lose/lose situation. We moderate, we're complained about. We don't moderate, we're complained about. The only other option is to be a deity, but some of our users are atheists so they wouldn't believe in our existence.
