I've been working on a website, and I found something interesting on the BYOND Referrals section. I bolded the part I'd like to know about.

On your web site, in your email and newsgroup signatures, and anywhere else that you have a voice on the net, make a link to http://games.byond.com/welcomeBYOND.cgi?source=yourkey.
The person you introduce to BYOND through this link will be marked as one of yours. Later, when that person becomes a dedicated developer, you will get a 10% tip when they order the designer's guide or sign on to the hosting service (that's 10% for life-not just the first payment!). Although we are already giving these away at cost, we don't mind passing on our appreciation to you, because the BYOND universe will be one mind richer.

If you have an artistic flair, you might want to design your own banner. If not, you can always use ours. For example, the following HTML, pasted into your own page, will make a referral banner.
<a href='http://games.byond.com/welcomeBYOND.cgi?source=Dan' target=_blank>
<img src='http://games.byond.com/images/logo.gif' border=0 alt=BYOND></a>

Be sure to change Dan to your key name, or I will soon be raking in your dough! (Worth a try.)

Speeking of dough, you might be wondering how you will get paid. Once a month, we process the list of new developers and deposit your cut into your BYONDime account.
From there, you can use it in future payments to us or anyone else who accepts BYONDimes. If you pile up enough to make it worth your while, you can also withdraw it in the form of a check. To learn more about BYONDimes, visit the BYONDime information page.

Now that the dimes are gone, what happens now?

Most likely they just havent updated that page yet.
Heh, nevermind that page being out of date with respect to dimes. The guide has been free for quite some time. The hosting service that was mentioned has been unavailable to new subscribers for even longer.

I don't know what Dantom plans to do with the referral system, but, other than possibly noting who brings in who, that particular system seems to have been dead for ages. I'm guessing it's not an issue at the moment.

I think Skysaw mentioned once that he got some dimes from it. I'm not sure how recent that was, though.

Anyway, if it is still working then it will still be working with dimes. BYONDimes aren't dead, just... being phased out. They still mostly work, if you have some left.

I don't doubt that someone got money from the system in the past (or maybe with a continuing part of a subscription). I don't doubt that something could be done without dimes. (I just refuse to guess how after seeing rumors lead to expectations around here.)

However, the original post quoted the referral system and asked what would happen now that dimes are gone. The answer is nothing. Nothing happened when dimes were here either. There were no products to sell, no list of new developers buying those products to process, and no cuts from the sales to those developers to deposit. Therefore, there are no issues with the form of currency regarding the referral system. =)

Oh yeah... silly Crispy! *thwacks himself upside the head* =) I forgot there weren't any products on sale at the moment.

Do a search back with the subject "BYONDimes" in the BYOND Q&A forum (Advanced Search is easiest) and you're bound to find lots of info.
