I think that ther shud be 1 seting to change the font used for text-map-mode, for example you can change it into a fixed font if you want to. And also a variable to make the text for 1 object into reverse-colors (the back gray and the text black)
You can do that with the <FONT> tag.

That lets you set the color for "text icons", but it doesn't let you change the actual typeface and it doesn't handle things like automatic reversal (if you have a grey text icon and you step on a grey background tile, you disappear... many text games invert the colors when this happens.)
