We would like to do this. It's on the list...

nice. and make a seperate page for rankings.

Also, rather than once per day for voting on a game, make it just one time. This will make people think a little more before voting, and keep someone who doesnt like the game from tipping the scales so much.

But then someone who dislikes a particular game will vote many times with one vote for each of their 50+ keys.

have you heard of websites with polls that only let each IP to vote once. You can do it that way so that it's one vote per computer.

That can easily be gotten past if you have a dynamic ip address.

I'd like to see us do something that combines the successful approaches of MUD Connector and Amazon...that is, an approach that requires the voter to also provide an essay. Votes/essays would be moderated, meaning that BYOND staff would quickly scan them before approving them.

I find that reviews like on Amazon are much more useful than just ratings. And since the same person is unlikely to take the time to write 100 different reviews for a game, it should significantly cut down on multiple voting (wouldn't stop it, but would reduce it a lot).

We've also considered having BYOND staff ratings as a separate element.

These are just some ideas. Whatever we do, it should be well thought out, and if it involves moderation then we need to make sure full support is in place to make it feasible.

This is why it hasn't happened yet...as everyone has pointed out, if you just slap a rating system on the games, it won't mean anything and will lead to lots of problems. But a good rating system is a very nice thing, and hopefully we'll get there.

It would be interesting to have a third "voting" system based on how many players play, and for how long.
So you can look at all three and tell if they have just got their friends to vote, or the staff likes the game but players dont.

lol. this topic is slowly turning into rankings. rankings with average people playing on the game, that would be cool. and highest number of people online would also be cool.

I wouldn't say ranking, more statistics. Since I wouldn't like too see the games ranked against each other.
