I'm going to have a free service on planetBYOND to enable you to upload your game's zipped files, but I don't want any other files to clog up the server. Is there any way to verify that the zip contains a game's executables?

I don't think there'd be a cleaner way other than executing the zip and put them in a temporary folder, but that'd still be messy. The best way would probably be just to tag a limit on it. Such as, 1.5-2 MB, and have a mod go over it once and a while for any suspicious looking files.

I suppose I could do that, but I'll have to put a liability warning up then. Someoen is bound to put inapppropriate content up.

Eek! NO! These completely arbitrary limits are keeping me from finding a server. (As we know, all new servers should bow to my 3-4MB Wrangle and Warp file. ;) ) People will just break up the improper files anyway. Perhaps warning moderators when files above a certain size come in could help a bit though.
File extensions could be checked within a zip file. However, those can be renamed. The files themselves might know what types they are, but offhand I don't know how to check without trying them in BYOND. |
