This idea was referenced in part by splattergnome a while back. The ability for a developer to send a proc call to a client that would flash the taskbar icon if Dream Seeker is not the topmost window.

This would be useful in Chatters, I feel. (especially when there's only 2/3 people in it)

Yeah, it would be especially useful for Chatters and turn-based games. This would allow me to develop and instant-messaging client via BYOND.

why dont you just make it play a sound?

a nice thing about DS in Linux is that I can set the shell window that runs Chatters to flash the taskbar or play a sound when any activity happens, or when no activity happens over a period of time. quite handy.

With my version of MSN, I set the sound off. Having a tone sound whenever activity occurs is annoying- say if someone starts spamming, or talking fast.

"ding! ding! ding!"

You'd hurt your speakers. Or just not come back to Chatters.
If, from the first sign of activity, the bar turned orange, it would be a lot nicer. Easier on the psyche!

you can turn sound off in DS too.

So then Strawgate's sound only option wouldn't be any use...just go with graphical, I'd say.
