If BYOND required a fee to use the majority of the developers will move to java and c++.

And make amazingly popular games full of variety and intelligent game design, revolutionising the gaming world. =D

And struggle hopelessly with the complexities of multiplayer networking, before giving up entirely. =D

Agreed! I'd pay up to $24 a year to access BYOND. Maybe a bit more, or something, but it doesn't really fit the motif of BYOND.

For just USING THE SYSTEM? YOU ARE CRAZY! Developer tools, maybe but... to play games? No... just no that's wrong.

BYOND is a great community! You can make something and already have a well of players to draw from! It's awesome!

Though... There are downsides. Bad games breed bad players, causing problems for the good games.

Yes, I wouldn't much mind paying to use the DEVELOPER tools, maybe Jiskuha has the right idea.
While I understand that you don't have the source in this particular case, keep in mind that setting world.log to a file will alleviate the "Denied access" spam in the text window. Perhaps we can have an option in the client to either turn off these messages or log them to a separate file.

The only thing we really need to do, if it hasn't been done already, is to prevent this message from occurring more than once in a host's BYOND session. My plans to do that some time ago were shelved when Tom mentioned he had the new pager well underway. If this didn't get implemented, it should be a priority.

Actually, I was refering to charging to play the game, not charging to use BYOND.

Nope, don't lie to me. Who would know what you meant better, me or you?

I prefer the pay to develop with BYOND, over the pay to play the game. Most developers would charge for their games if it was pay to develop, seeing as they ahve to recoup their losses.
