Does anybody have an estimated date, and what new features will it have?

Nope, theres sepeculation that it MIGHT come out sometime this year or two, but hey you know what they say..

Everyday it gets closer. The problem is, I don't see it coming out for a couple years. Hasn't it been 'close' for a few years now?

What're you talking about? They promised it a few years ago, so we're getting further away! We're going in an infinite time loop backwards, getting further and further away from 4.0.

They promise great things to keep you around and waiting. Chances are 4.0 won't come for several years because the administrators are too busy making new icons instead of writing code. Don't sit on the edge of your seat, you'll fall over.

I'd laugh really hard if 4.0 is released in about an hour (and I highly doubt it will, but still.)

If 4.0 was going to be released, im SURE dantom would sent out some sort of clue, like something wrong on the website, or a global page message written in japeense or something...

Besides, even if that WERE true, the BYOND servers would have to go down for all of the updates that would have to be made to the server.

I don't know about 4.0, but I'd say 3.5 is right around the corner. A lot of new things have been going on.

4.0 there's no date on yet. The good news is that most of 4.0 is ready, but we need to first go through the transition with 3.5. The better news is, 3.5 is on the horizon, and it will answer a lot of feature questions for you as well.

3.5 introduces FMOD, and the new pager system.

As for 4.0, I've heard rumors... of rumors... that an alpha channel on icons will be supported... That one better be true!!

I haven't heard anything of the sort. Alpha channels are planned for "some day", but that doesn't necessarily mean 4.0. I'll be very surprised if 4.0 has alpha transparency.

What is planned for BYOND 4.0 is greater control over the interface.

You're right about 3.5 though.
