Well Crispy I still don't think the Pager shoulden't be thrown away I think we can atleast keep the pagers and byond members get more things than normal people and special offers.

now THAT is an idea thats usable... but i dont know the cost of keeping pager up, it may not be PRACTICAL, i cant say because i dont have the financial information, plus those extra features would cost money in and of themselves

You still have full use of the pager for a while, why not work something out now? Tell everyone your contact information outside of the pager, and/or where they can find you (Chatters).

we are not 'ordering' you to- just providing viable *free* alternatives that do the same thing, yet cost nothing to DanTom.

and where are you getting *two* fees? Chatters is free for as long as i remember, and with me being the primary host, it will remain free as an alternative to the pager and other Chat-systems. and if you make your own chatroom program with BYOND it can also be free. it's your choice.

...what if these young people can't use chat systems like Msn,Yahoo,Aim cause there parents won't let them?...

re-read [link] - you have a choice: something made for just this thing, or make your own!

Your making us depend on something someone else to create to talk

we are not making you depend on something else. if anything, Chatters gives you a free alternative just as good as the pager (and in some cases better), while reducing costs to DanTom.

alternatively (as mentioned upteen times already), you can take a few moments and create your own chat room- it's practically built into the system!

this is complete BS Byond was my Favorite place until now.

sorry to hear it- we may surely miss you.

good idea..., but if you cant find them to invite them in.... then well... whats the point? cause they ARE taking away the ability to know where your friend is also...

the point is that there are many ways to keep in touch with your friends- the pager is not disappearing immediately, so now is the time to do a little planning- set up a room in Chatters, create your own chat/IM system in BYOND, trade emails, set up a free forum someplace, use other IMs if you can. if you are resourceful enough and put a little effort into it, there is no reason to lose touch with your friends if you don't really want to.

as i stated before, the not being able to see where friends are, that isnt. in my oppinion, that was a BAD idea, but the messages are expensive. i cant go with either group here...

If you look on the pager, it shows you the location of all your friends. However, this isn't magical and instant.
Your friend's pager would have have sent a string of data to your pager, telling it to display where they are.

So essentially, just opening the pager causes everyone on your list to send you a pager 'message', and do so repeatedly after (for updating the location).

It's very expensive, when you consider the average BYONDer may have 10+ people on their list.

I wouldn't bother replying to Crispy, he's not taking sides (at least not in this particular thread). He's just warning people that if they start resorting to pointless flaming he'll have to close the topic.

Darn skippy. :P Why do you think I'm so partisan?

We had left it somewhat ambiguous whether member locations would be reported to non-members. It's been resolved that members will have the option to display their location to non-members, which should make it easier for groups of friends to get together.

What are those 2 seperate fees?
Membership (not required to publish game)
BYONDscape (not required to publish game) (comes with first year of membership.)

What else is there?

I don't know about you, but I won't be missing anyone who leaves over the next few weeks.
I say good riddance to 'em. If osmeone is going to do nothing but complain, we don't need 'em.
it's kind of too late to do anything about it man, just learn to add people to AIM or something.

Some of us would be so glad to help out with the expenses because we ENJOY this product that people slaved to create that we'd actually buy two memberships. Why don't you ask around to see if someone with more money (the rich) would be willing to donate more to byond by getting you a membership?

Basically Tom and everyone promises that the money we give them is more towards producing a better byond a lot quicker then before, rather then making them rich. I trust that they wouldn't squander the money we give them, and I believe that even if they did they sort of deserve it... after all, without them willing to create this for us byond wouldn't even be here and that'd be a shame.

Also, think about it this way, $15 a year isn't that much.
Nope. Only 1.25 a month, and lets see...
1.25/30= about 4 cents a day.
Come on. How many people can't afford that. I'm willing to bet even 4 year olds can get a hold of a few dollars a month. Hey, dig around in your couch daily!

You're acting like it's the end of the world. It's not. BYOND uses up so much bandwith for the pager that they have eventually dropped out on cash. I believe they should have a limit on pager, like 10-15 users. Paid for people get unlimited acess!

I dont really care for the pager, the pestering people that dont stop the spamming gets really annoying. And if it's just me, the pager is extremly slow it takes 30 seconds to recieve a message.
In response to RavenHeart
the pager is pretty much a crappy version of AIM or anything else out their. Why doesn't someone just whip up something called like "Pager 2.0" or something and make it better. I never use the pager anyways, and i'm fine.
