I had gotten v3.5 of BYOND....
And DreamMaker doesn't allow people to, via File / New, make .dms files anymore.
Why?
And I do realise you can just make one with notepad, but it seems much easier and simpler to make it in DreamMaker.

They're doing/did it because of the new client/script var, which eliminates the need for .dms files.

I suspect that if it does have a purpose, it's paving the way to 4.0, where DMS files will either be redundant or completely revamped. After all, the two uses of DMS files in games are macros and interface control (text colours and such); 4.0 will have a completely new interface designing system, so that part at least will be obsolete. I have no idea about the macros. But that's just a personal educated guess, so don't take this as fact. =) Or it just could be an odd mistake. |

what's a dms file used for? :)

Many things! DMS files facilitate Join/Connect/Download links on the website, save certain Dream Seeker settings, allows game authors to change the colours of the text box in Dream Seeker, and allows game authors to set up macros specific to their games.

oh yeah those files. I knew I had heard that often I just couldn't remember being able to create a .dmb them in Dream Maker so I spaced it x_x

Weird, I wonder why they would do that.
You can just type in "blah.dms" in the text box, and it will make a .dms file. A simple workaround (and faster).
