I wouldn't doubt this has been suggested before, but I'd like to put this in my own (awkward) words:

Now, I've been using BYOND passively for a few years now, normally working privately with a few friends. The reason I do this is because, quite honestly, the general BYOND public probably doesn't want to play my alpha games until there's more content in them.

While I greatly appreciate the audience BYOND can give you, people who otherwise have the possibility of being interested in anything I've created normally get turned off by the premise of downloading (And then installing) a program to play a game that they probably won't like anyway.

This brings me to my suggestion / query. Would it be possible, at any stage, to have BYOND run in a browser? This question stands more towards the "Is it possible for it to..." question rather than, "If it was possible to, would you..".

Assuming it could be done, it'd be a lot easier to gain a wider group of people to play the game. DreamSeeker may then be rendered redundant, but it'd still have a use for people who wished to play other games on the HUD.

I should mention I'm not expecting this to happen any-time soon. With the release of 4.0, I can guess a major feature like this wouldn't come for quite a while still. But in my personal opinion, it'd be a feature that would be greatly welcomed by developers - and their target audience.

Thoughts, opinions, suggestions, verbal abuse?
Yes, it's possible. If you use DMCGI, you can run "BYOND in a browser".

Combined with Ajax, you may even be able to create your own "DreamSeeker in a browser".

Technically possible, maybe. (Though I really wouldn't touch AJAX for this - I'd look into a more heavy-duty solution, like Java applets or some other way of embedding a "real" programming language in a webpage.) But it's not remotely possible that it'll actually happen.*

Please don't say that, because it's quite wrong. DMCGI doesn't count - it's not "BYOND in a browser", it's just a CGI webpage like any other. It just happens to have DM code running the backend.

* The only way I see BYOND ever being embedded in a browser is by using a third-party tool such as igLoader. But I don't know enough about igLoader's capabilities to know if it can handle BYOND, and I suspect that access to the source code is required in order to create an igLoader-wrapped executable. So a BYOND staff member would have to do it, and it's really not a priority so I doubt it'll happen.

Heh - Go figure. Well, cheers anyway. It's not like I can't stick with the BYOND members, but heh. Hard to get noticed in the world of DBZ clones (And apparently Naruto clones now? When did this happen?). So, yeah. Thanks for the answers.

Or if dantom created a byond plugin of sorts
one that was installed with the main byond program
and was cross browser so one could run byonds screen into a webpage
Actually I agree with u man, it would help a lot. And I completely feel the same way when I find a game on byond that says it has all these cool features, and u just download it to find out that it's just crap. I've been playing byond for ...well this year would've been my third year but dreamseeker stopped working for me and a few other people in late December, which gives me hope that if Dreamseeker doesn't work for some of us, having the browser as an alternative would've been of great help. So please byond staff dudes...is there any sign of hope that byond could be capable of playing in a browser? if so or if not, just reply to this post :P.

Ah dang it, wish I read this before posting my reply lol.

Actually, I think it should be mostly because lately the DreamSeeker has stopped working for a lot of byond members and so far non of the staff members on byond seem to have a solution to those problems. So I'm prety sure that I would appreciate a browser form of DreamSeeker...that crap is busted, and I posted about it to...just search "DreamSeeker not working" and u'll see how there's no possible explaination for it >.>.

Ya I agree with what u said.

Putting Dream Seeker into a browser wouldn't magically fix anything. If code is buggy, then it's buggy.

No.
