I think that if a coder wants there should be a setting so that the game will play the sound to whoever its sent to regardless of their sound setting.

If the person playing doesnt like it, nobody is forcing them to play. But I think its necessary for a lot of things. Like voice instructions maybe?

So the coder has the ability to respect the users sound setting, or...not. Maybe the user should get some kind of pager message when they are entering a game that doesnt obey their sound settings.
Why?
Sorry, but this is a bad, useless suggestion. No go here. It should definitely be the player's choice to whether or not they want to hear sound, and you can't stop them ffrom turning sound off anyway.
I half-agree: there should be a readonly variable for the client that says if the client has the "download sounds" preference turned on or off. Some developers may use sounds in browser elements, but may also want to allow players to specify that they don't want this.

I honestly don't think this would be a good thing to implement. If the player wants to mute the game it's their own business. Oftentimes I've turned off sound on BYOND because I needed to hear something else on the system instead.

Forcing people to listen to junk in your game is a sure way to get rid of players. Its a dumb idea, forget it.
I don't like this idea any more than the other guys, but I can understand that some people just turn off all of their sounds and can miss out on games that actually have well-done sound effects.

So, how about an altered request: have a "sound whitelist" and a "sound blacklist" within Dream Seeker as well as a "sound default". Then, you could set games that you always want to hear sound on into your whitelist, games you never want to hear sound on into your blacklist, and any game that isn't in either list will take on the default setting (which is the feature that already exists).

I don't think there is currently a set up setting-saving per game system, so maybe they should just add a toggle_sound kind of setting to the interface editor, which should also enable all of that automatically, since players can customize skins?

I like this idea. I've always had a problem switching between MLaaS and Murder Mansion.
