I'm sure it's been requested before. When creating new files, it'd be nice to give the ability to create the new folder if you choose to create it(or rename it?) in an unexisting directory.
Instead of "That folder doesn't exist, you fail", it should ask "That folder doesn't exist, create it?" or something.

It'd be useful for someone who likes quickly organizing files within folders without having to create them in the explorer. Empty folders don't even show up in the file tree, either :(.

I know your pain and I totally agree with your request. Organization is a pretty important design aspect for most projects, even if it is underappreciated.
I am indeed in favor with this. I hope this feature will also be available when you rename existing files. I wanna see empty folders when you check 'Show all files'.
I suggested this feature a couple of years ago, but if I remember correctly, creating an "explorer" like interface takes more work than one would think. I don't know if the situation has changed, but I agree that this would be a useful although not completely necessary feature.
