I'd like a mode for the pager that functions between private and none. Not allowing anyone to see when you're online or to send you pages, but to still allow for use of the basic pager functions.

Or as an alternative, the whole 'Normal', 'Private', 'None' system should be replaced with a customizable menu of check boxes for different functions.

If your talking about the functions like joining games and hosting them, you could simply log on, host or join the game, then close the pager, I often do that.(Unless you can't do that and I haven't realized the pager's been on for at least two weeks.)

I want to receive pages about forums replies, new comments, games coming online, be able to monitor game statuses, etc. But not have to deal with morons sending me spam invites to craptastic zeta rip #9999. And though private mode claims that only your friends can see you, I have nobody on my friend list, and yet I still get these spam pages. |
Isn't there a ban from pager function, or am I getting it confused with ban from website or something?

If you want someone out of your pager, generally speaking you don't want him/her on your games. This is very much so not the case for pretty much any person who actually has a game. Having a BYOND game guarantees you will be contacted by a whole bunch of people you don't want to talk to, but you would still want them to join your game. |
I think Vic has a point in that I'd probably be okay with banning people from games I host if they bug me. Doubly-so if it's a game where the game is up for download and other people can download it and host it themselves.
My solution to this would actually be a checkbox under Preferences where you can't receive pages from people who aren't mutually your friend (You have them on your Pager list, they have you on theirs) so that way they can still join your games and see where you are (if you allow that). There should probably be a way to know if you're watching someone who isn't a mutual friend, just like how a person can check "Show Watchers"; maybe put an asterisk or something by their name since watchers already use grey names. There should also be an error message sent back if you try to send a message to a nonmutal friend who disallows such a message to be sent to them, too. |
