umm, would it be possible for a portable apps version of byond to be created?
A ZIP version of BYOND is now available on the downloads page, so I would assume you could use that.

From the portable apps website:

Adding Other Apps to the PortableApps.com Menu

The PortableApps.com Menu will also work with other standalone and portable apps. You just need to place them in a directory "next to" the PortableAppsMenu directory. So, in a standard layout, you'd create a directory within the X:\PortableApps directory and place it within there. For example, if you have a portable program MyApp.exe, you could create a folder called X:\PortableApps\MyApp\ and place MyApp.exe and all its files within there. Then, just click Options - Refresh App Icons within the PortableApps.com Menu and your new app will show up.
Not any time in the near future.

When I read 'portable apps' I think of things like the iPhone and other mobile platforms.

the thing is, if i put it on my flashdrive and just run it, it does work, but whatever computer i run it on, a BYOND file appears and if this cant be put into the portable apps format, is their a way i can make it to where the copied files dont create any files on the current machine?

Can you be more specific about what "BYOND file" is being created on the computer? Did you unzip the BYOND install onto your flash drive, or onto the computer's desktop?

i installed to my computer then coppied the file from mt c: drive. i only know of the file created in the documents folder, but im not sure if their are any others. if i delete the file, the next time i run it, it appears again

Download the ZIP version and just extract it to you flash drive. I'm not sure where it places client-side savefiles, but I'm pretty sure it should keep things in its directory.

When you run the BYOND client from your flash drive, go into preferences and select the Advanced tab. Then change the User Directory so it's on the Flash Drive. I think that should work, although I was unable to find where the ZIP version of BYOND stores its preferences :/

After doing some experimentation, it looks like you'll need access to any firewalls the computer is using to allow BYOND, or else you'll log in as guest.

It also seems that the User Directory setting is stored in the registry or something, and will have to be reset each time...
