Okay I noticed that BYOND has added a rip or not a rip links on games hubs. I saw that by pressing "rip" it brings up a search where you can find out the game it's a rip of.

What does BYOND staff do after the game is claimed as a rip?

And why can i not claim a game like this
http://www.byond.com/games/KikkioGoGo/NarutoGenerationReborn
a rip? There are no links. And Clearly this is a rip of Naruto GOA by Masterdan.

Currently rips are simply hidden from the search and game listings (not marked as "published"), so games like NarutoGenerationReborn (which has been labeled a rip) are more difficult to locate. It makes sense to take this a step further and suppress them entirely. It is a sticky situation since we are just going by people's words/votes that these games are in fact rips.

It can be hard at times to go by peoples words since some could just say it to be a jerk to someone for the simple reason that they don't like that person. But most of us would like to see a clean rip free Byond. I'm glad Byond is finally taken action to this! Thank you.

They shouldn't be suppressed entirely, they should just be 'quarantined' to something like their own guild (or sub hubs). Which is the only place they will be displayed. This way people can still find them if they want, can still list their games for their friends, and people will know what they're getting into before they join the "100% non-zeta" zeta rip.
You could even split the "Published" "Total" sort options on the hub into a new "Rips" category which only displays rips. Though people would argue that that provides them with more publicity.

Sadly people will continue to make Rips off of games. Because Everyone has different ideals for a game in which they think they can make it better by making it more noobish or changing the name with a cooler interface, and Title Screen.

It is doubtful that all rips will ever be gone from Byond, and making a new category just for rips... I say that is fine but, have players actually know who the rightful owners of that source is.

That wouldn't be a problem, and is actually a concept I support. Just not when all of those games are exactly the same, built from the same code, same icons, same fail. Taking systems and replicating then improving upon them should be exactly what game developers try to do. Pretty much everything any game does now is just that anyway, the problem is when they fail to make a system as functional as an already existent one.
Of course, none of that really applies to BYOND. Downloading zeta source, attempting to change the title with -10 programming skill, and then hosting the game, claiming it as your own, should just get you banned.

Well because most ideas are used from previous game ideas and such. I doubt there are any more new game ideas people can use. I guess it just depends on how people use them. But if they want to use some games ideas or icons at least do it with your own coding. You can never learn to do anything really from a crappy source. But, it doesn't really affect me of what people do. I was just wondering what Byond was doing with them

Yea this is not a good feature.

I have like 3-4 versions of my game and people are going to label them as rips of each other. I have them each on different keys.

Theyre going to be labeled as rips when they aren't.

One of the games is pure PVP, another is pure RP, the other is 50% RP and 50% PVP. Etcetera. But the source is the same(ish)

Or, byond could just do nothing! Rips are already stuck back on page 4+ of the search results, people are taking care of this on their own by not playing them.

It's taken care of itself, the good games are on page 1 already, and the further you go back the less quality you get (on average). There are no perfect systems so this is as good as can be expected. God knows this new system is flawed even worse.

I'm new to coding on byond and my skills is what Falacy stated -10 xD. I just wanted to know if using Systems from Byond Resources and adjusting them to work on a game your making considerd the game a rip? I'm really intrested in coding but I'm really to lazy to read the entire "blue book" or whatever.

The book is available to the public and the snippets inside it were not released through fraudulent means... so it will not be called a rip.

However, you will progress very little if you go on with this method. Programming a game, especially a large one, requires lots of patiences and the ability to read and, somewhat, memorize. Being lazy doesn't help get your projects finished.

Let's not forget that the Blue Book / DM Guide was made back in the BYOND 2.0 (I think) system. Much has changed since then.

But the basics are still the same. If I remember correctly, the only difference in the blue book is that not all of the new, glossy procedures that we have now are in there, and macros don't work the same. There is also 1 proc that I believe got a name change, but besides that, it's the same old system. It just extends past the blue book.

That's the original book. The online guide has been updated a bit, and there are appendixes for some of the major changes.

That's why you list them all on the same hub...

@OP - I think a good fix would be to put something like...
"Naruto: BlahBlah" then under the title put (A rip of Naruto: Blah.)
