This is just a greeting from me to you.
This should probably be moved to off-topic as it has no relevance to art?
Just wanted to introduce myself to the community of the art section before asking questions and such, but yes can move it to off topic if a gm likes. Nice to meet you SilencedWhisper, and Andrew.

I meant a gm as in form moderator. Hello Albro1, your videos on coding were pretty useful, thanks for visiting my thread. I hope to have some art in it soon, I'm unsure if I should start off with bad art or study hard and then post. Was aiming for study hard then post, but some (CC) constructive criticism might be a fast learning way. I think I will post my art, though it might be bad. Byond helped me quite a bit in my life. I was critiqued on here pretty roughly but that improved my grammar immensely when I was younger, all that cruel "love" motivated me much farther then other things. So that being said, I'll posted this grass tile and explain what I'm having trouble with that I'm "aware of currently in art"

This is some grass I did, please constructive criticism it.

Currently I'm trying to learn how to make my own pixel pallets been reading lots on the resource for learning to pixel on Byond. I haven't found much on that yet, but I understand what hue, saturation, value, and good amount on color theory, I'm starting here so any tips would help. I have an okay understand of cold and warm colors not really sure what to do though when picking pallet colors with that knowledge.

That grass could use some work. For one, it seems a bit too... leafy? As if it's better suited for a tile directly underneath a tree. Perhaps you need a bit less contrast and blocky figures, and the blades of grass you're trying to draw could best be oriented in a single direction (preferably up) rather than pointing random directions.
So here is my avatar, I made I know probably should of just kept studying before making him but, my avatar seemed blank. Criticism him also, I'll be tweaking him later, enough on him for tonight. Also I'll work on fixing grass tomorrow as well, thanks for all the criticism.

Hmm not a member yet, I'll take care of it tomorrow, night guys, best of luck in all you do.

Hmm slight tweak before I go to bed.

Also a few notes, the sword handle looks really good all black but because of the background and limited colors I had to make it gray, might change background as well later. Also try clicking on the image and view it on imgur i feel like the forum color kind of blends with my character and sorta effects the design. Perhaps something to consider, since it'll be my Avatar.
The Grass.. it reminds me of grass i made a while back.

mine^ yours^
only thing i say is define the grass sticking out more, it'd make it look better? maybe. The Avatar seems like it's being overdone too much on some parts and not enough of some, and the shield seems like it should be turned to his left some more to show a better perspective.
Looking good nice work and hello, as said about the grass its to leafy blades of grass not leaves. On the avatar i like it to be honest its a good piece. Listen to vixiv on the perspective and you should be set.
I'd love to believe that what I'm reading through will eventually answer some questions I have but it may not, so with that being said, what is the right way to go about making your own pixel pallet to have the colors enhance what you draw and not hinder it? I understand what hue; saturation, value, warm, cold, complimentary, vibration colors are (Warm and cold I understand on the wheel but not how to use them for a pallet, I presume I should pick a middle of the color then choose warmer or colder hues but? I don't know exactly.) but haven't found anything giving me any means to practice it and understand it from experience yet. Also I tried to redo the shield in my semi isometric avatar and I suppose it'd be easier to find perspective on human anatomy turned, which I still do need to study, but what about an object like a shield? Also thing I was trying to do was kind of draw my character inside a box to see if I could understand more perhaps how the shield should face, also tried to move it away and do another box, trying to build my own learning tools since I might not always find what I need to know right away.

So that was my attempt at using my own tools, I did try Googling for some shields turned that might look like my character at that angle but isometric seems like a rareish angle in real life, at least in my opinion unless you are looking at an isometric character.

I started with a knight reference he wasn't exactly isometric to begin with and his shield angle was different then isometric so tips on making things into isometric, since sort of lost my visual aid at this point.

Oh also I tried to get into the character and pretend like I was holding a shield up and noticed I held it about slightly 1/3 of my chest area where I figured the shield would reach in a relaxed stance and still be using the shield like a wall.. Perhaps he needs to hold the shield out more? Maybe I simply need that shield at a better angle? Not sure how to get that angle. I've done some angles and they turn out to look like half a shield and not quite right.

I'm starting to notice most isometric games always have the shield in the right hand and sword in the left, maybe it's just easier or clearer to display a shield that way, but yes right now doesn't look like he has an left arm and I'll work on it after reading a lot more.
