You people here attacking and going to troll my website are nothing but no life trolls and haters. I actually had an idea. Something all of you combined could not do. Maybe this will fail but at least I had something and actually created my own website. Not only that but I contributed much to BYOND: paid over $150 and had made many hub entries: 4 of my own got approved. And this website is meant to help people as well as profit us and BYOND.

1) I didn't end the chat
2) I am the supervisor 3) I didn't insult your programming abilities unless a chat verb is ALL you could do which is a shame 4) How did I dishonor your family? Yes file for that weak charge because you can't take it but people here keep trolling on there and I still put up with it! Do whatever you want but I did everything right. |
Just noticed this topic.
There's a classified section on this site for people to hire coders, artists, etc. I know you want to help Byond but Byond already has a section to hire people. Is it to hire them for projects off Byond or what because I'm not seeing the point of it. |
While I can agree that the site does have a few issues, please don't rush off and start trolling them. The concept behind this service is pretty solid, though it definitely could use a few improvements/modifications. But downright being mean and hateful to the staff of the site is rude and most certainly discourages people from creating services like this for BYOND, and reflects badly on us as a community.
If you don't like the site, please provide constructive criticism rather than being malicious. Or just don't visit the site. |

Interesting site, keep working on it. Having a list of available guys is preferable in my eyes, that's one merit of this.
Some of the site feels unfinished though, so I suggest fixing that.. also, I'd eliminate some of that pointless blank space that's going on. Some is good, but I think there's too much there. Also, I'd remove the listing of GFX and SFX Artists until you actually get some, that way you don't look deserted. Good luck! |

I'd like to raise some questions here and have them addressed, since I did just try to use your website and have some concerns.
First of all, the cart thing is totally unintuitive. You click hire and it apparently adds the item (see: people's time) to your cart, but it doesn't alert you to check your cart or that it was added. It doesn't look like anything happened when you click hire. Maybe you want to address that. Secondly, I find the entire process questionable. When you hire someone, apparently you are paying $20 for 1 frame of art, and $20 for 1 hour of programming. The only problem here is that when you're checking out, it tells you to "please add their key so you can contact them."... Really? So let me get something straight here. I am going to spend $20 of my money right now to pay for 1 hour of programming work... to someone who doesn't know that I am going to hire them until later in the day when they get the page I send them (if they're even available that day at all), to someone I haven't discussed my needs to (can they even do it?), to someone whose schedule might not match up with mine (what if I buy 20 hours and 20 other people have purchased his services?), and to someone who might decide to only work an hour here and there. There needs to be some contact before spending money. Seriously. And I have a feeling your developers can't mark that they are not available for work. If they can't, there should be an option for that. I also find the price of $20 an hour to be exorbitant. $20 an hour is a living wage that most people on this site cannot pay for. At $20 an hour, I feel like your website is just for people having a problem to go get help for an hour at a time from time to time. I don't see anyone seriously hiring someone at $200 for 10 hours of work (and especially not to someone we haven't negotiated a schedule with). As a community of hobbyists, I think it's probably fair to reduce that price significantly, or offer bundles of some sort that provide significant discounts for higher numbers of hours. SIGNIFICANT DISCOUNTS. [edit] Also, I hope your developers agree to the discounts you put out BEFORE they are put in place, since they're the ones losing money for their work. Or at the very least, I hope you let them know that you're gonna be doing discounts whenever you want to. |
The rate seems fine, but the method of sale does seem as though it really would not benefit either party well, now you've described it.
What might be better, is to look at more established freelance models such as https://www.elance.com/. The primary service of elance is then project arbitration. They hold funds from the service buyer until there is mutually agreed satisfaction, where-by it is released to the programmer. As the funds are taken in advance and disputes can be resolved where the service buyers has received goods but does not wish to pay up the rightful amount, elance affords the service provider some piece of mind that they aren't working 'for nothing' necessarily, and take a $5 - $20 flat commission for services rendered. The system permits bids from providers, discussion of requirements before bidding etc. |
