I have applied for BYOND to accept cellphone payments but I never hear back, as I don't think our volume is enough to qualify.

Paypal does have a microtransaction support where they take, I think, 5% + $0.05 on each transaction instead of the 3% + $0.30 standard. I don't believe we can mix the two, though, although maybe we can do so on a separate account to enable such a thing.

I did a 5 year membership partly to save money, your right, we either have bills or we have no debit/credit cards.

Which is why I wrote this.

5% is a pretty high usury charge but at least that's available. I doubt there is much similar things outside the US at least not well known.

Just wondering, what's the cut off point where the 5% version is more expensive, about $15? Was just trying to do the maths. I don't know how many subscriptions for games have more than this in a single fee, if you could do the 3% rate for BYOND memberships, and the 5% version for purchases through hub pages, that might work out better for almost all cases (it also has a logical split, as BYOND is the main benefactor of memberships, game creators from hubs).

Maybe try to contact support and set something up through that.

They should provide you a deal since you are more like a company and not an individual user.

Why not just 3% for all? BYOND hubs having 5% should be for micro transactions, which there aren't much of. So any large, legit purchase through a game would be deducted by 5% instead of 3%.
If I could I would..... *sigh*
I'm curious to know if the ads have increased BYOND memberships by anything major, Tom? I suppose the pre-donation milestone data would be more reliable, despite being a relatively short time period.

And as for the ads, are the rates just as bad as before?
The income is fairly nonsubstantial but it looks like the CPMs and traffic are increasing so we might be able to hit my modest $100/day goal, which would be pretty good.
That's cool. $100/day is certainly better than before video ads were implemented... which was, well, nothing. Hopefully it's worth the amount of time put into the pager. =)
Yay, the goal was met 14 days in advance.
Haha. Yes! I am so excited, and look at that bar expanding to handle it! That's so funny. I thought it would just go green, or stay full or something.
"Out goal has been met!"

Very common typo.
Woo hoo! Thanks all!
The question is, will it be the same for next month?
Well, I am hoping we can do $5000 every month because, combined with the other income sources, that is actually enough to keep this going without having to think about the business model. I realize this month is of course going to be higher than normal since everyone wants to contribute. I hope that fact that we've met the goal doesn't deter people from helping out because I would expect (based on past Membership volume), we're going to be short in other months.
We raised $5000 in 16 days, now we won't be able to raise it again in 16 weeks (Lol sad but true).

I agree, it gets old and old fast when you have to pay money :)
Look at this day like the day you graduated high school and got into college.

It's all downhill from here but we can hope for the best and see how it goes.
Well, I don't think we can count on these extremely generous $100+ contributions, but if we can encourage more people to contribute $5 or $10 (maybe by promoting or incentivizing the in-game Membership benefits that add value to Membership), then we can still meet this goal. Like I said in the OP, we have thousands of users and very few actually pay anything. So we need to get the word out and hopefully enough will want to help.
I'm sure continuing to hit the goal will be much tougher, but it could definitely happen. It just depends on how things go with developers and their upcoming games, BYOND Membership promotion, and how well strongly motivated people like Teka, and Ripper Man 5 can continue to spread out motivation; it's quite contagious after all.

I've been discussing various ways to help BYOND with some friends pretty often, and we have a plan for motivating a lot of people we know to donate; it's too soon to give any details on that but it will hopefully help a pretty good bit.

BYOND Membership benefits are also going to be added into my game in an update I'm working on too. I'm not saying that's a big deal, but I am hoping it'll tie in with the other developers who have or will be adding it to their games. I mean if subscription perks for one game gets people paying, it should be easy to get people going for something that gives similar benefits in multiple games.
