Hello, quite shocked on the games that are currently listed on the latest games page.
Most are half finished or demos that shouldn't even be available for download.
Someone is using their moderation powers to an extent of stupidity!
Oasiscircle?
Yusuke13?
LordAndrew?
Not trying to point the finger at anyone but seriously, how is BYOND going to get better with games with basic level of design and programming?

A list of the moderators who look at the games can be found here.

Due to a lot of controversy, we're not actually listing games so much as just tagging them now.
|
brett i totally agree with you x 10000 but whenever i complain about a game or lib which isn't helpful or uncompleted then i get flamed to death and my post gets deleted

Complaining about other people's games isn't really a productive endeavor. There are always going to be bad games lurking around the corner (and this is true of any platform); letting them affect you personally is just going to lead to you having a bad time.
|
but listing them even thought you know they're unfinished is ridiculous, that door handling lib is badly coded and pretty much pointless considering you can do it in a minute
|
The general strategy is to be list friendly, allowing people access to this content via the pager and website sooner rather than later. Hence, as Tom says, we are tagging games, more-so than making a qualitative assessment on them now.

[Stumbled upon this gem...]
Doesn't Steam list unfinished games? Not all games on Steam are the greatest. They do have higher standards for their game listings but its about getting the game known and out there. By listing the game on BYOND they aren't saying.. "Hey this is a perfect game!" |

Steam only lists unfinished games in a specific "early access" part. Otherwise, if it's not finished it's not listed.
|
Steam isn't dying for some new games. Showing more games makes the site look more lively.
|
@The Magic Man- Yeah and the games on BYOND are currently only being tagged. So basically what you are saying is the game isn't acceptable to being listed unless they are titled "Early Access". If you want... think of the games being tagged as "early access".
@Fugsnarf- Of coarse Steam isn't dying for new games because its has had quite a bit of time in the business and has done well. Are you saying that, BYOND, who is struggling needs to limit down games that want a little listing? I thought BYOND stood for Build Your Own Net Dream... not build your own net dream and get crushed with harsh comments and higher end standards. Yes it would be amazing to get wonderful game creations on BYOND but we can't all be the best. This is a community for all types of developers; beginners and experts. |
My argument is that I prefer the site being more open because it makes it look more lively. When it was closed off to members only with high restrictions on listings, the site looked incredibly dead.

I don't think they are bad.
However, I would love to see on this http://www.byond.com/games/?sort=live some options like "Unfinished games", "Anime", instead of having the tags, which are rarely used (at least by me). And I've read your comments on "Love" thread, and I actually think you were very mean, if he's learning to code and he wants to share his ideas with us then sure, but don't act like if BYOND had tons of epic games, just check the link I posted before, there are only some original games with players. As long as they are liked by the people, I don't think they damage BYOND. |

At this point in time, we have to treat new developers who actually try and develop original games like gold. Not worry about petty things like 'this doesn't deserve to be listed,' help them, don't regulate them.
Quality control is one thing but I'm sure BYOND will eventually have to worry about quantity as well, new games didn't come in as often. And it really makes the place 'lively' as Fugsnarf mentioned earlier. |
