Unix OS, professional video editing, DVD creation, music recording, Windows XP in its own virtual sandbox, BYOND development for Windows and Unix on one blazing fast portable machine:

Priceless.

Holy crap, I love your CSS.

Also: cool computer.
Ah man, you beat me to this...I gave the 15" MacBook Pro intended for me to one of my engineers because nothing less than 17" floats my boat (take that how you will), and that wasn't available yet.

Now that the 17" Pro is available, there is an administrative barrier I have to wait through...but I'm salivating over it already.

I'd love to hear how well Parallels works for you with BYOND. I'm really looking forward to doing my BYOND work on a Power--erm, MacBook Pro. I already pre-ordered Parallels, for that matter.
So awesome and I love your CSS Layout!
Sexy.

Ha ha ha...
Cool, I am doing the same thing with my Laptop, but it isn't a mac. Running Ubuntu with a windows VM using Qemu. It doesn't run as fast as I would want, but I think there is an emulated CPU speed issue(Boots in seconds, untill it is loaded. Minutes in the VM go in about 10 seconds.

So I guess you don't want to carry the thing around much? My 15" PowerBook at work is ok, but I really do prefer the smaller size of the 13" screen (and the 12" iBook before it) for portability.

You'd think that working at the same company, you'd be able to get these before they go on sale to the general public. But then I guess they're so secretive and don't even trust their own employees! ;)

So far so good. I haven't had a chance to test too much, but I had a nice game of ShapeShifter in the latest 4.0 client. Tom tells me that one should be using OpenGL, and it was nice and smooth. No lag like you'd get with Virtual PC. The sound was a bit choppy at times, and I'm not sure if it's the virtual machine or FMod. Should test 341 just for kicks.

Compile times were much faster. I compiled the 4.0 Dream Seeker in 1:25 on this machine running in Parallels, as compared to 4:25 on my "real" Windows machine (800 MHz Celeron). Unix compiles are even better: the whole suite took 33 seconds with gcc 4.0, compared with 3:48 (733 MHz G4, gcc 4.0), 2:32 (1.25 GHz G4, gcc 3.3), 0:55 (2x2.0 GHz G5, gcc 3.3), and 0:48 (1.4 GHz Athlon, gcc 2.95). Not too shabby.

I had to do it, really...

I will try to add some more pictures to make it more like yours.
So I guess you don't want to carry the thing around much?

I use my PowerBook primarily on my desk (really a table) at home and on my desk at work...I do carry it to meetings, but I'm never really trying to hold it on my lap or use it no a bus or something. For me, it's basically a portable desktop. Probably my main motivator is having a large screen.

We usually don't know about a product that we aren't personally involved in. But even when I do have a chance to use early versions of the hardware, that's not much of a treat -- prototypes are buggy and pretty much unsupported once the product is released, so strange things happen and you can't get them fixed.

I have a 15.4" screen, and it is plenty for me. I have a 19" LCD just sitting there for when I need to use it on the desk. My only problem with it is that it is 15.4" Wide, not 4:3. The wide makes me feel like I am reading on a peice of paper...but all the text is printed landscape. The internet is not made for widescreens. When will Laptop developers realize this?

At work we have Dell monitors that can rotate so they go from 4:3 to 3:4, these are great for the internet.
Sweet!

My only complaint would be the lack of a two button trackpad... but I would probably just buy a usb mouse anyway.

Movies are made for widescreens. Laptop developers have realized this and are not likely to go back. Consumers want it.

For that matter, multitasking is better with a wide screen.

Unnecessary. Two fingers + click = right click. Took a day or so to get used to, works great. Two finger scrolling is excellent as well.
But my laptop is for computing and my TV is for movie watching. Hell, my TV isn't even wide. I don't think it is better for multi-tasking, perhpas no different.

What what what!?!!

Oh man. You should not have made me wise to that. Now I'm going to buy one with money that I don't have. *Sigh*

By the way, nice choice with Final Cut Express!
*drools*.... That is sweet... Feel free to send it my way if you decide it is not enough for you....
I Laugh out loud at the parallel OS. :-)
Add a copy of CentOS and you'd be set. Heh.

And yes, I'd have to agree on the fact that wide-screens are better.
*drool*

My MacBook Pro arrives in 3 weeks. I can hardly wait.
