Need something to read? Check this out. It's the website of Cory Doctorow, who writes sci-fi novels and short stories and then makes them available for free download - as well as publishing them in physical book form. His reasoning is that his problem isn't piracy; it's obscurity. Good on him, I say! I haven't read any of his stories yet, but they sound interesting and I'm told they're pretty good.
While I'm on the topic of fabulous free fiction, anyone who still hasn't read Star Harbor Nights by Alexandra Erin (some of you may have heard of her) is missing out. She recently decided to mothball her previous superhero fiction efforts - a vast collection of writing assembled over more than a year - and start writing it again from the beginning. The new series has basically the same characters and events (with some changes) but is more polished and benefits from the experience that the author has gained. And it definitely shows; her writing just keeps getting better and better.
Speaking of which, I see she just posted a new story. Later!
Edit: I just finished reading Anda's Game, one of Cory Doctorow's free short stories. It's very well done; I recommend it.

"Star Harbor Nights" by Alexandra Erin
Isn't that Lexy? I seem to remember her writing something with that title? Anywho, interesting, but reading is not my style, I prefer to be read to. This is why I rarely read Lummox's posts, they are normally a novel of their own. |
Yup, that's Lexy.
I finally started reading. I also started bookmarking where I leave off just like I do with my webcomics and journals. I tend to check the list of links weekly. (Actually, SHN made me stop putting off last week's updates.) Dealer's Choice is up next. |
I seem to catch a lot of online things when they are being rewritten. Perhaps I should register just to make sure Lexy knows when WITCH comes back. ;)
