Perfect! I headed over to CafePress and made up the design. The sign came the other day and looks great:

The cat's litterbox has been located in our hall closet for some time now. Effectively, that closet is the cat bathroom. It even has a little kitty door that I installed last week. Which got me thinking...

You, sir, are a genius.

Haha, that's cute and cool.
One day I was walking down the hall and saw our cat squatting over our toilet to go. It was the weirdest thing I ever saw. I helped her flush. It was just a one-time thing, though. |
I love the synopsis thing of this post on the main page.
"Effectively, that closet is the cat". |
That is awesomeness if I ever saw it!
And to Sarm (though he might know this already): Cats can actually be trained to use the toilet... The method I'm aware of is that you move the litterbox closer to it little by little every few days, until it is eventually on top of the toilet seat itself... Leave it there for a little while to get them in the habit of going there (might take a little step-stool nearby so they can jump into it without knocking the thing over), and then remove the box... They will (hopefully) continue going in that location... Though flushing might be a bit more difficult to add to the routine, unless you've got one of those cats that can flip light switches and such...lol |
do one up for a ferret, and you got yerself a buyer! (or i guess i could do one up for the digitalmouse cafepress site too, come-to-think-of-it).
neat stuff Mike! regarding the cat-using-toilet trick: if you wanted to get really fancy, you could devise a switch (toggle, or maybe even pressure sensitive), that the cat can step on to cause a small motor to move the toilet plunger. should be doable from a mechanical/electrical point-of-view. the trick will be in the cat's willingness to learn to flush! |
Interesting idea... Why don't we just make it triggered by weight on the seat (or rather, when the weight is removed from the seat)?
That way, it works for both pet...and owner! It flushes on its own when you get up! Of course, the mechanism will need to be rather sensitive, as cats are generally not very heavy... And you'd have to take care to not set it off accidentally by setting something down (and subsequently picking it up) on the toilet lid when closed (although, it could be rigged to not flush if the lid is closed) And then, you'd need to fine-tune it so it doesn't go off if you shift your weight... And the original lever (or other manual flushing mechanism) would have to remain, as some uses of the toilet do not require sitting down, and would thus not trigger the auto-flush (though perhaps a panel on the floor directly in front of the toilet could be set up as an alternate trigger)... But regardless, all of these design obstacles should be fairly easy to overcome, leading to a really nifty gadget! |
Hmmm, interesting sign, but it is lacking something...Oh, a cat in a dress and a wheelchair. You add those and I will get one for sure.
|
Heh. I love this idea. I think I'm going to need one at some point. I'd actually order one for my fiancée if her cats' room had a door.
LOL at Scoobert's comment. Dress and wheelchair versions would be priceless. |
