Agreed.
Summary of the virus can be found here:http://www.apple.com/iphone/ios/
Eh.. you haven't heard of jailbreaking?
Oh believe me I am always jailbroken, but you can do considerably more with a rooted android. Granted, if you study ios you could probably do something cool, but why back the dying horse?

Not sure what you are getting at here? yes Android is more open, but what is it you exactly want to do?
I'm at the point of life where I want to look deeper into the intricacies of devices, as of late I have only known things on the software(GUI) level, only daring so far to mess with the terminal and other CLI tools.

I want to look deeper still and look at a machine from the bottom up, appreciate the kernel and memory management. Even build my own applications from source.

For a PC im undecided between studying on an Arch based system or Gentoo, both have really good reviews for what I want to do. Gentoo more on the side of documentation and building things, while Arch is more "bleeding edge linux"

On the mobile side of things, I will be studying Android, as I truly think IoS is a bad virus that needs to go away already.

End goal is I want to have a CV that shows I can handle software but if need be I can get my hands dirty and touch kernels :S
Yep sorry that made no sense.

Each to their own.
True that, have fun putting an app on the applestore. :)
