The reason was that they were too much to moderate. In my opinion the blogs were one of the best, if not the best, membership perk and sole reason why people bought memberships. Everyone wanted their own CSS and wanted to learn to edit their page to look how they want to. Yeah they're able to offsite but that's what was so good about them, they were right here. I feel like the staff shot themselves in the foot when they took it out but who knows, maybe they'll be added again in the future. It would be amazing but I doubt it :(

I thought of that shortly after making the post. That is a pretty gopd idea. Is that sort of thing allowed to be made visible even though there's no game? I could definitely whip up some content to put in there, if not. I like that donation idea too. Subscriptions could also play a part in people who want to back your progress officially whilst gaining benefits. Medals could also be doshed out to those who join the "game" associated with the journal or blog.

I'm pretty sure it's been done before. Subscribe to one hub, gain benefits for all of the games associated with it (because checking subscriptions for different games is a thing).

The primary issue with a quality marker essentially is at what point you put the bar.
As a for-instance, for programming, my notion of someone deserving of such a certification (taking into account BYOND's indie game developer audience) would probably end up having ... 10, 20 people, marked? Other people however, would probably quite happily apply such a certification to anyone who can answer the most basic of dev help questions. Freelancer.com for instance has an examination based certification mechanism (and being freelancer.com, charges you to take it), but due to the examination's nature, is frankly a useless indicator of actual quality, as the bar is much too low. It about ensures you are not stating you have skills you could not possibly have in any sense of the word, but it certainly makes no attempt at stopping you overstating your skills. |
