I have been refining my pixel art abilities under the guidance of Zete and would like for feedback on how the community thinks it's going and if it's paying off.

Thanks, in response Zete pushes us away from outlines if that's what you mean and Zete did the final shadow on the left tree so that's not my fault, just following by example. :P

Yeah, it's nice. It just seems a little flat. Maybe I'd be able to get more a feeling of depth with an actual mockup.

As for criticism, I think your outlines need more stark contrast, and your shadows are a bit too heavy in the bottom left and bottom right of those trees respectively.
