the worst thing is i used to be one! (until one of my mates pulled me out of this stupid trance and i actually started revising for my exams)
Good read. After coming across grammar Nazis time after time, it became clear they would just use your below average grammar(if that were the case) because they have nothing else to say in an argument. No argument to uphold so they attack you for every little grammar mistake. I can dive deeper into this topic but I think you get the point.
Acknowledge only that which is worth acknowledging, unless you are say ... a politician, media mogul, professional drama celebrity etc.

Despite what society seems to increasingly suggest to us, leaving a criticism without response is no bad thing. Indeed, for petty or baseless criticism such as that, it gives it all the attention it deserves: none.

Hoping people follow the more regular conventions of spelling and grammar is in itself, fine. It allows for a cleanly understood dialogue and makes sure we don't all spend time deciphering what was written, in order to get at it's underlying meaning. Basically we spend more time debating your points, and less trying to work out what the point was.

However, to reject a text outright on the grounds of grammar alone, or pick it apart on those grounds, is the dominion of the small-minded.

You effectively seek to discredit the point by highlighting flaws in it's technical delivery ... which by it's nature means you're not addressing the point itself. Your reply thus becomes irrelevant. Like all replies that don't address the point itself, they are not worthy of response in turn.

----

The flip-side, perhaps, is trying to appreciate when someone is simply hoping to clear up an issue of communication. They cannot understand the point due to the technical delivery. This case however, is far more rare than the case of 'grammar Nazism'.
