The franchise that gave a generation of game reviewers the phrase "living, breathing world" is officially coming to the 2006-generation consoles.

I think they'll start to work on what Elly said. Its just with consoles theres a limit on just how much you can do, without spending your life on it, and without making it buckle under its own weight.
I was one of the people who really liked SA, but for 2 things: 1) The gang system, as nice as it was, can sometimes be hard to find people to kill to start the street fight. I really dont want to drive round for an hour to get a tiny piece of territory. And another thing is, why such a small area ? The other towns had gangs, why couldn't we take them out ? :P 2) The story, while well done, was a) annoying at places (eg, when your chucked out the first city, and your going round the map for ages doing silly little jobs) b) was short and finaly c) went a little too quick at the end, could have done with more spreading out, the last 10-30 mins of the game could have been spread out to a few hours without the need to add too much content, shame really. |
Elation:
They should improve the graphics less so than the conventional next-gen update, and use the extra power to make a changing, evolving city. Yep, I agree. I expect they'll go further in that direction, and continue sacrificing cutting-edge graphics to be able to include more content, since that's essentially the approach they've taken on current-generation consoles and it seems to have served them well. Acebloke: Sure, I had a few minor complaints about SA myself -- like the fact that the dating system basically required you to stalk the girls until they happened to be at home, and one of the coolest cars in the game becomes unavailable once you've wiped out one of the gangs... |
I just don't want a required mission like SA's Learning To Fly. I got my flight skill all the way up and completed that damn circle with the minimum score. I have yet to pop the game in to do the circle again and land.
That shooting gallery in Vice City is not fun either. |
The thing I don't like about it is the smoke.
There's no way to switch it off and if there's one thing my PC doesn't like (apart from Oblivion) it's smoke. So basically, the mission "Los Desperados" (which I assume is pretty much the last) is totally unplayable. Damn. Well, I needed those 6gb for other things. |
One of the things I would love to see would be the ability to go into the old citys. Possibly even play though some of the old missions. This would give a hell of a lot more gameplay, for little sacrifice, especially sence the PS3 will have blueray drives.

Well, San Andreas was a whole "state", so maybe GTA4 will be a whole country, including LC, VC, and SA...
|
One feature I'd really like is the ability to access all of the features that are displayed on the HUD within the pause menu. I've recently taken to playing San Andreas completely without a HUD or radar at all and it's presently impossible to check your health or your current money (!) without turning the HUD back on and then turning it off once you've had a peek.
Strangely enough, you always know the exact number of "armour points" you have, if you check the pause menu, since it shows your current armour level in terms of an actual integer as opposed to a meter. I thought that was kinda silly. |
- Long draw distance
- More world persistence
- Changing demographic, etc.
- Changing populace
If you keep killing old people, old people will decide to move out of the city through fear of being killed, for instance.
That sort of thing. Have a real impact on the city.
