Think twice about it.
The BRs are more known for playing anime games, I've barely seen them playing on original games. There are lots on Dead World (well, when it used to be hosted by Tetsuya), and it even has a Naruto BR Game. Anyway, it isn't a good community (I don't want to sound mean, but if your objective is earning something from the BRs, you'll only get a HUGE AMMOUNT of "Algum BR? Eu sou BR!!" on your servers, and lots of troubles trying to get them to speak English, a lot more if yours is a RPG). Anyway, it's a good idea, good luck.
By the way, I lol'd when there were more people from Brasil than from UK xD
I've found that if your lucky at least one of them knows a decent amount of English and can actually translate for the others, so they aren't necessarily cut off language wise, so its all good.

It shouldn't be too difficult to have someone define their native language upon login and have the Google Translate API run in the background, translating all output to their language.. Of course, this would require all output be text-based. :/
At the moment, a Flash client couldn't support this, as DM doesn't support other language-sets.. I have a feeling the BYOND community would be much, much larger if Asians were able to play(2ch actually used to have a rather large BYOND userbase, though for the past year or so it's seemed that they have a bad view on BYOND - you can actually get banned for posting it.. o.O). Edit: I was going to link to a 2ch BYOND post from 2008, but for some reason it links to the wrong page when I post it here... |
Alrighty. Here's the period January 1st 2012 - January 1st 2013.

I find it really weird that a resolution as small as 1366x768 would be so popular, but I did a brief surf around and found that it is indeed the most popular resolution in the world (that accesses the internet, that is)!
What I find really really strange is that apparently some of us have moved from 32-bit back down to 24-bit colours. Also, a super-massive thank you to Stephen001 for not only answering my request but doing so in such a vigilant manner! Thanks buddy! |
Well, the 24 bit screen colour difference is quite small, too little to really be considered a trend as such. It's probably best explained by the fact the sample sizes are a little different, and the demographics have changed. As a result there's probably a few more low end (but 1366x768 resolution) laptops in the mix for 2012 in BYOND's user base.

I find the most surprising thing here that almost 14% don't have Java installed. o.O
|
Well, it's reporting applet registered support in the browser only, in that instance. With Oracle slowly phasing out applets entirely, and things like Minecraft doing WebStart via executable to get the JRE onto the system, I can imagine the browser never gets a registration and that figure will only decline, going forward.

Something to take into account is the fact that Google Analytics takes data from EVERY computer that comes to the website. So the actual percentages of dedicated player stats will vary, but it does give a good idea of the most common choices among players, computer-wise. This is where I think the wildly low percentages are coming from.
|
These were collected from 'returning visitor' segments only, mostly for that reason. Returning visitors make up a good 70% of traffic as it is for BYOND.
|
Thanks for these statistics, its very interesting.
Glad to see our Brazilians are still around, its nice to know we can breach out of the English-as-first-language part of the world. I expect things like the no-Java, wildly different resolutions and the 24 colouring might be related to the much more varied types of accessing the internet now. Before we had a straight choice between a desktop and a laptop, now there is variants of those as well as mobile phones, pads, etc all with their own OS and hardware. |
Just an update running August 28th 2012 - August 28th 2013

I doubt it, plenty of them play / host Naruto.
What I like is the mobiles :) time to make BYOND responsive already :) |
I recommend anyone who is experiencing site slowless to block it, it saves quite a bit of time on loading.
