For more DETAILS read the announcement on HWC's forums!
Since April of 2006 Hidden Wind Clan has been catering to an independent group of like-minded, creative individuals with the idea of an intensive role playing community that has no strings attached. The motivation behind it is that anyone can achieve important positions in the game, strengthen their character and play a significant role in an intricate community through sheer work and motivation alone. No money is involved.
The community prides itself on a no discrimination policy and is built to help interested writers develop their literary skills in an interactive environment. Regardless of how they write.
The main point of this game as a whole is to role play. You will start off your journey as a member of a ninja village. The paths you take, the development of your character and technical level of expertise you acquire is all based on the amount of time you put into the game. As stated, it's a very intensive, immersive and involved role play in which you can build a character of your own.
There are a number of characters on the game that have been in the making for the 5 years the game has been open. The longer and more you play, the more involved you become. You get out of this game what you put into it.
The game has been down for a long time. I'm in need of a strong, respectable staff team to manage the game.
What we're looking for:
Read the DETAILS on the official forums for what job roles we need. Descriptions of each job are included there.
Creative minds to write and execute staff run events (festivals, village attacks, story-lines, etc.)
&&&&&
Strong willed people to enforce game rules and moderate both the game client and forums.
To sum that up, the game is a role playing game. The staff members are in charge of writing the unfolding (and ever changing) story line, organize events and moderate the game. I've broken the roles into two separate fields -- Events Coordination and Player Relations.
I'll personally make sure that it's worth the time of anyone who volunteers for positions. Application process is required. PLEASE read the post on the HWC forums for more details (link posted at the top of this post)

Good staff and volunteers do not mix in the same sentence. If you want good staff, payment is required. I've learned that over the past few months.

I've been in this game development on and off BYOND for probably 8 or 9 years now. I've had a number of people work along with me for free for resume builders or out of interest alone. It's different for developers. Good development staff typically requires pay. |
I've ran various RP communities and found various 'RP trustworthy staff.' In the end, they all do something bad such as abuse and result in a big problem. I tried paying someone who actually gave me his CV, never faced the problem.

Not to mention if the staff were friends before they started moderating the game, something bad will happen. You can go to Bleach Odyssey Roleplay. Staff are crap and abusing. The owner has no way to find out who is doing so because all of the staff are close friends. They defend each other.

For the 5 years that HWC was active we only had two notable staff members who were abusive. I've probably had over forty people work there in total (not all at the same time). I agree one hundred percent on the fact that payment does help SECURE good staff and assure that they are respectable. But that doesn't mean good staff, especially for writing and moderation, need to be paid to be capable. Like I said, HWC alone has been around since 2006. There's been little problem with abusiveness among staff. I've worked on independent games that aren't related to BYOND and staffed them all through volunteer basis. Donations received that aren't needed for server costs are always distributed to staff who perform well. It's not a lot but it's incentive. |
Not to mention I'm coming up to my 10 year anniversary on BYOND.
Needless to say, and I don't mean to sound conceited, I have a bit of experience in what this post entails. |

I believe that RP staff are meant to be OOC and not RP AT ALL. I believe that moderators can benefit from not being affiliated to the role play. I don't think it makes a large difference either way. Someone who organizes events and writes for HWC needs to be involved with the role play. Like I said, I'm only speaking off of personal experiences -- of which I have a fair bit under my belt. |
