Stood in the shower thinking about my Batman New 52 #2 that arrived this morning I thought to myself 'How would a superhero game work on BYOND?'

I had a quick search through visible game hubs but couldn't find anything along the lines of superheroes so I figured maybe it hadn't been done before, unless any of you guys know of any games that were under production or are still under production.

I was wondering how superheroes could be imported to BYOND. How would a superhero game work?

Personally I imagine that a BYOND superhero game would be a topdown (3/4) game in which the player creates a character and selects a few powers which they can upgrade and progress in a skill tree. They would then have to do quests around a big city which is open to PVP. Players can also decide to be villains by gaining some sort of bad karma.

I think a BYOND superhero game could be cool if someone had a good vision and the right resources.

This is kinda like my vision:

Hopefully that helps you a little. It's just bumping action, but i think fatty had another game forgot what it was.
Thanks for the link, I see he has a Static Shock game too.

The game is kind of the style I imagined but not with licensed characters and more content to each character.

Was fun to have a short blast on though.
It all began with, "Super Hero Bash" by Sariat way back in the day. I've always wanted to make a "Create A Hero/Villain" type game. Having missions of saving civilians from gangs, villains, etc... The opposite would be for villains though.
Falacy attempted a Super Hero game, but that was the problem... Falacy was making it. It never reached over 3 players.

I think I remember that. Would be cool if someone actually went ahead with the superhero idea.
Yea with a good design it could be good. Not with there being over 50 batmans flying around. That will be chaos.
Batman doesn't fly. Superman flies.
LoL defeats any Superhero byond game.
batman glides

Sounds like Rise of the Pirates if you ask me.
Pretty sure he was referring to all the PIRATEd software.

Where do you think LoL got its ideas from?

inb4 DotA where do you think DotA got its ideas from?

inb4 Warcraft where do you think Warcraft got its ideas from?

inb4 popular comic books where do you think comic book heroes came from?

STAN. FLIPPING. LEE.
What was the point of all that?
I have a feeling you don't see many superhero games on BYOND because "superhero" is just the theme. People who set out to make a "superhero game" will focus on that theme without ever defining what the gameplay will actually be like.

It sounds like an action/RPG that'd work best as an isometric game or a sidescroller.

Sidescroller + Superhero + BYOND? That's just... bad.

Or it's this with a modern urban setting instead of a magical/fantasy setting.
Not really, Darwin. I've always imagined the best Superhero game on BYOND would have to be isometric or sidescroller as well. I've always felt a superhero game would require a rather large map, where you can interact with anyone and everything - and top-down 2d doesn't do a great job at letting you do that well.

I'm not sure if you remember the original Grand Theft Auto games, but I thought they were pretty shitty for this very reason - I felt so restricted.
Original Grand Theft Auto games were awesome. To me, the 3D versions were the shittiest. I played Grand Theft Auto 2 for years, San Andreas kept me entertained for like a week.
I'm not sure if that was your opinion, or if you are just saying it to go against me, which you so keenly try to do for no apparent reason.

Anyways, to Slayde: There was a game called Heroes a while back on BYOND, and I recall them doing a somewhat decent job with a 2d topdown perspective on a superhero type game that had no specific brand to it. I think the problem was that it felt too combat arena-ish with no goal in mind, and not much like a free-roaming world.
