So, like many others on BYOND I am backing out of my game. Kingdom Hearts Online Adventures is being thrown into a far away folder in the depths of my desktop for a while, maybe forever.
I'm not without my reasons though, I think I have been pretty blind these past few years on BYOND. Convincing myself that I can learn to code from source rips that are outdated and outclassed nowadays. This new self knowledge has been gained far too late in my time on BYOND, I wish I had spent these years actually learning BYOND coding and using guides instead of playing around with sources thinking I am a god of coding because I can add a Naruto clan or whatever. Instead of spending time causing petty dramas between myself and other developers I should be working on proving myself through my work, even now I should be working to actually have something cool to blog about instead of this post.
I felt I had to quit KH:OA because at this moment in time if I had carried on with it I may have ruined the coding that already existed, how could I have kept the coding consistently good when I don't even understand much of the coding myself.
I am going to attempt to get a finer and more fluent grip of the BYOND code by following guides, looking at the ref, and experimenting with my own coding. If I cannot make it as a developer I will just stick to being a player on BYOND.

Another one bites the dust.

Don't get your hopes down. There's actually a few developers(including myself) who got a basic understanding of DM starting from rips. When I was 12(four years ago) I started off with a zeta rip, just added new things, experimented a bit, and slowly learned myself. Then I started a small semi original pokemon project(bout half the game was libraries) but there's still hope. Just experiment, ask questions on the forums, and try new things out. Trust me, you'll learn soon enough.

I agree with AbdelJN, even though as of now you don't know much. Even the best of the best were where you are now, not understanding and trying to learn from others code. Try it yourself, learn through trial and error and be a better programmer because of it.

Your post is very positive. The danger with what you were doing before, is that you learn other people's bad habits. This stuff is a nightmare to correct later, as 1. you believe it's a good way to solve X problem and 2. your problem-solving process with naturally want to use those bad habits.
So I am pleased to see that you are choosing to learn programming from trusted, respected and vetted places. |

Kingdom hearts will never happen on BYOND anyways. I have seen Sora as a clan in some Naruto games, you sir are wrong. |
