I was just thinking back on an old idea I had for Movie Maker BYOND involving an awards event for movies made with it. That is when I came up with an idea for an awards event for the BYOND community where different projects can be awarded for different things. This event of course will require the effort from the staff and possibly others from the BYOND community to make such an event successful. My suggestion if such an event were to be held is make it happen every year on a particular day (though judging can happen much earlier in the year). Feel free to suggest a different plan if you support the idea.

Should it be held, here are some categories/genres I have in mind:

Best Game for a particular Genre
Game of the Year
Library of the Year (This one actually is completely optional and may not serve much purpose since each library do serve their own purpose.)
Best Game Presentation (which can include graphics and audio)

This is not a complete list and feel free to suggest any more categories or genres that are not listed. For those who are against the idea or have reason for the drawbacks, there will be drawbacks with this idea. One of them being preparations which can be very difficult due to things that happen in lives of everyone who participate in the judging process. Feel free to discuss the idea and vote freely.

Edit: It appears some have suggested it before like Calus CoRPS. Well, thought I would bring it back up Calus. :D
Sounds like a really good idea to me =)

Where's the personality of the year award? or the Troll of the year? Seems to be a lot of entrees for that one.

Though i do think something related to beneficial members of the BYOND community might go down well.

How about: Most polished game of the year, Developer of the year, Artist of the year.

meh.

Edit:
yeah what Yut Put said would be good.
There will be a "Best Troll" award?

I need to start stepping my game up then.
Yeah. A lot of people trying to take my spot as the reigning troll champion. But I ain't going down so easy!
Thanks for providing suggestions ya. Definitely some good ideas should an awards event be held. Though it may not happen, we can still keep things interesting with more ideas. :D
I am actually working on a BYOND E3 show. Interested.
Nice Valoesdte. :D
Me and EG actually thought of that idea for BYOND Journalism - where we would annouce yearly "Game of the Year" and "Best Developer of the Year" and such. But, now that you've brought it up, I think I'll try to persuade him more into it.

I don't think I was ever against it.
Sounds great, I'd tell everyone I know.

You were obviously against it.
This is a must!
Sure it could be a good idea, as long as you have impartial judges. If you do a best Genre, I would try and get staff/members from said genres to get to pick what they believe the best game of said genre. Then the impartial judges would vote on the best game, votes have to be based on things like: Completion, Presentation(Looks, interface(Not worth as many points as the others because graphics don't necessarily make the game)). Story, originality, stuff like that.
And a decade from now it can be BYONDCon.
Yep, impartial judges are the key to the success of the awards ceremony/event. For games that support story, that would definitely work. Originality is a great one to have to determine games that are the most original.

In terms of seperate genres, it would definitely make sense to pick judges who deal with such genres the most. I already know one who would be great for the strategy game genre and he deals with BYOND News these days. :D

Of course that's his choice. There are others who deal with that genre too. :P
@Tiberath Lol.
Ah yes, I forgot about him. Wouldn't hurt to have him. :P
