Depends on the community. Some places actually have good moderation/administration.

Lol. Big programming fail there on my part. To be honest, I wasn't even thinking, it was just an example. A very poor one. xD.
turf/NOKILL Enter() usr.canKill=0 Totally off topic subject that just came to my head: What happened to Masterdan? |

He MasteredDeath, now he's dead? Not really. xD You just reminded me of him. :P |
I'm a realist. He's not.
Seriously, I think we my oooold blog pose where I called out his Goukakyuu looking "Flat as a paper" compared to the rest of his map was a good enough example. |

Admins ARE needed on roleplay games, otherwise people just **** around constantly, and no one is there to ban them. Roleplaying games are a different story, but are not separated from the facts of the post. I'm sure your an admin somewhere and have a decently crafted banhammer, so question, "How on Earth has that Ban verb, Mute verb, or Boot verb ever helped advance a roleplay?" exactly, it does the opposite as it stops roleplaying from happening. Perhaps the game could use spam filters? Or something I never see in bad games which is an interactive tutorial to explain the rules? Think about it, someone played Call of Duty yesterday and today he played a Byond game called Proelium which is a Pvp game. This guy has never heard of a RP game or perhaps doesn't quite know the rules of the game, so he uses his first instinct *attack* assuming, "This is how I play the game." Sometimes, people need a short easy tutorial to help them out. How many times have you ever found yourself reading a wall of text to a game your not even sure you enjoy/like? (I have multiple times and found I didn't want to play the game sometimes, which means it was a waste of my time.) |

I can think of several examples in Hazordhu in which a ban verb has helped us keep out players we would rather not have simply because they were in fact detrimental to the roleplay, as well as disrespectful to everyone online, and an all around nuisance to have. |
That is tru. Perhaps I let my emotions get in the way. (I'll never fall to the dark side!)
forgive the "flame" parts of my rage rant. |
I dont think i have banned someone in the last 4 years... anyway i do see Admins as more like Government Officials than anything else... AKA a backup plan incase things go wrong...

We have several other commands that server to simply disable features for trouble makers. - OOC mute - Complete mute - Disable Combat (lol when they meet a zombie) - Disable Admin-Help button (for those who just abuse it) |
